Well what he's doing now is not playing rugby, he is a liability to the Canes going into a final. look at last years final, If he catches the pass the Canes are 2015 Champions. Weight is about discipline, of what you put in your mouth and what exercise you do. Sounds like your calling him a lazy fuck in the off season which from what I have seen your probably right .

If he doesn't make that great tackle on the goal line, the Hurricanes lose by more.
-

i think you keep him in the squad. not near the xv at present though for me. not with the way waisake got that ball down in the corner.

That would be my plan. Moala into the squad to cover wing (since Ngatai seems gone and judging by last night Tamanivalu might not be far behind).
-

I think if you have Moala and Naholo in the squad, Savea offers you little. Savea is probably competing with someone like McKenzie.

Yeah - if you assume Ngatai is out of the 32, then Moala comes in and then one player needs to go to allow a third halfback - McKenzie or Savea?

Since we've got three other fullbacks, I'm inclined to think it should be DMac (who can bide his time) and the coaches can work on Savea.

Brutal finals series coming up, so most likely an injury will decide anyway.
-

Savea aside I REALLY hope Moala is in the RC squad. I hope not playing finals footy doesn't count against him, he has so much upside.

Shit yeah, how that Chiefs bloke who's name I can't spell got picked ahead of him is anyones fucken guess and time isn't gonna stand still just in case Ngatais head comes right.
-

Right, so the All Black selection trials are really to keep fat lazy bunts off the streets. :fishing:
-

Well, you aren't going to pick both Naholo and Savea in the starting line up, IMO. We already have Dagg and Ben Smith as certs so we have two players fighting for one position. If Naholo is our best left wing, then what is Savea's role? Savea isn't an option for the bench (Naholo is an option for the bench as he has come on at 13). If Naholo goes down the day before a game and if you still want a power winger, you have Moala to give you that option.

If you still think that Savea is a better player than Naholo then you definitely pick Savea in the squad. I just haven't seen much evidence of that over the last couple of weeks.
-

Wreck Driver was suggesting he has six months off. I probably wouldn't pick J. Savea in the All Blacks at all but I would definitely make him play ITM Cup.
-

[pedant] have to be a time traveller to play ITM Cup [/pedant]

Savea dropped a pass he should have kept and failed to gather a kick down near his ankles. Naholo's problem seems to be decision making - particularly if someone's jumped into the air for a catch. One is easier to fix.

i would definitely have him replaced by Lowe. In my opinion he has put in a lot of quality performances and his skill level, decision making and ability to keep the ball alive is way above both Savea and Naholo. One error yesterday but in the context of his consistency all season I think he should be an All black.

Agreed. He did his chances no harm at all with the 20 minutes he got against the Tahs.

The elbow injury didn't look to be an issue at all, made quite a few runs including one clean break, nailed Folau in a tackle and then drove through the ruck to get a turnover, and then his hustle to get up out of the ruck after he tried a pick and go, lead to receiving a pass for an easy match winning try.
-
Success has come thick and fast for Savea. Hes on course to be our greatest all time try scorer. World Champion already at a young age and hes done things on the field at different stages for club and country that only Jonah before him has been able to do. He needs a rest. Time away to refocus and get hungry again. When youve done so much so quickly its hard to maintain the desire and focus to get stay on top....unless you are McCaw.
