I haven't seen the game but two tries on debut for Valynce Te Whare.
One was good, one was basic
But he played fucking good. Classic looking guy too. 18 or 35? Fit or fat? Who fucken knows?
Looks like he always has for Waikato and Chiefs Development. Just watched the match and enjoyed his interview afterwards. The attention to him from the commentators and the forum after is amazing. New cult hero they say. Calling him Val Meninga. They showed him doing a solo haka to the crowd after the match. It looked amazing. What a way to win fans. And only playing league for a year...
Great win by Dolphins.

@ARHS they fucking smashed a good team. Great win.
Yep. Some great matches and good teams losing this weekend. Would have been ropable if Bulldogs had won on the back of the ref clangers last night though.

This is a cliche and it's shit how we fall back on this but
The warriors got fucking screwed today. That ginger fuck and the bunker fucked them
The first panthers challenge was on something that wasn't called, they committed a deliberate penalty to review, and were allowed to get away with it
The hip drop sin bin wasn't a hip drop
The high shot that hit Harris in the jaw didn't even get a Penalty
The fight sin bin was based on nothingWe.got hard fucked sans lube
If they want us out of the comp so there is no bye just fucking tell us

Great win by Dolphins.
On a league forum I frequent they are hailing him as the second coming, they also talk about how rugby is a crap game and easy all the time so don't like it when you point out to them he was playing 3rd division semi pro rugby before switching to league.
It is funny. Although I don't know what is more overhyped this weekend, the Coronation or Magic Round.
Anyway to the actual games.

Yep, it's back to the bad old days. Such utter bullshit. Was planning to go to the Bulldogs game next week but am really wondering what's the point (and it's at Homebush).
Good to see my second team the Dolphins notch up another W.
Good win to Souths, Mitchell really has the full package of skills, his short kicks were class.

@Nepia 3 missed tackles and 3 ineffective tackles only 10 hit ups means a lot of room for improvement playing at centre for VTW. However his first try certainly showed his strengths. Nice guy who will be a cult hero regardless so good on him. I don't think anyone would have also picked the Phins to go 30 up against the Sharks either.
Warriors didn't play well with the ball they had and also didn't get any luck from the refs. The so called striking action was the most laughable call. Interestingly if Curran hadn't reacted we probably could have challenged and won as on the replay it looked like the ball didn't hit a panthers player before going backwards, instead we go a man down again for another 10 minutes.
Still any team that plays without their wingers and twice with 12 men and stays only 8 points behind Panthers for that long deserves credit. That was a tough effort to hold in there for that long.
We do need players back and fast, between injuries and dodgy suspensions its tough for that group to hold in there.
L Mitchell is playing on a cheat code this year..while he is fit Souths look tough to beat.

Aside from the Warriors having a descent season despite their recent form, Kiwis are doing really well throughout the NRL. Not sure on the exact figures, I have heard that there are somewhere around 30-40% of players who are Kiwis. There has been a lot of talk about a big centre Te Whare debuting for the Dolphins.

I am sceptical about that number of Kiwis in the NRL. I often look up players on Wiki etc when they catch my eye and it seems more than ever that players are either Australian or Pacific Island born rather than NZ born.

Did you watch the Dolphins doco? I was watching it and wondering why they were focusing so much on a fat grounds keeper until I clicked it was Te Whare. I was surprised they chucked him in at centre, all the highlights I've watched of him on YT he's been on the wing.
I don't think he'll be a cult hero on the anti fat Fern.

@Crazy-Horse It does change from year to year and when you include the lower grades it bumps it up. It is a fairly significant number. The Dolphins are probably fielding the most Kiwis outside the Warriors.

yeah I did, it was actually quite interesting (more than I thought it would be) that is the one, the club calls him Val Smith because they couldn't say Te Whare, but the fans labelled him quickly Val Meninga.
Actually there were a couple of moments yesterday where he ran his winger out of space just like a winger thinking they are a centre lol. Don't know why they have him at centre either, presumably want him to get his hands on the ball more

Magic round, how good?
Genuinely fucking great event.
Broncos got things off to a flier by absolutely pumping Manly
We'll skip the Warriors, and move smoothly to the Dolphins celebrating Wayne's 900th by flogging the Sharks
Then Souths smashed MelbourneThe Tigers continued their climb to the minor premiership by getting the Dragons' coach fired (that climb will end this weekend when the Bunnies get hold of them)
The Cowboys came back to life by pumping the Roosters, and all the guys that i abused in the post above played well. The Roosters are in a world of hurt though. I expect Walker back in the team this week
Then the last game of the weekend is a belter with the Titans beating the Eels.Field held up, heaps of people went, looks like everyone had a ball. NRL magic round is best magic round

@mariner4life brilliant event and weather mostly held, a bit like the pitch.. mostly. They are considering moving it around including Sydney, Adelaide, Auckland etc but personally keeping it in a warmer location I think also is part of the appeal.
A couple of big upsets including the Cowboys turning up this week and absolutely smashing the Roosters. I also agree Walker should be back this week. Roosters lacked creativity for most of this event and I dont think Manu will be the csape goat. Could be Keary's turn for the reggies.
Titans also with another upset over the Eels and Fafita might have finally found the right head space for Origin, always a beast but previously just a lazy beast. The form backrower this year for me.Hook surely gone
