Not a bad shift from the young fella. He needs to start the big games with Ardie. Kirifi just isn’t big enough.

He's one hell of a unit for a young fella. Looks a bit awkward when it comes to running though. I hope as he bulks up with age and training he doesn't slow down too much or lose agility.

Oftentimes the backup to an established All Black in a Super team can be bloody good.
Can't give a single other example, but it's definitely true.

How in the fuck do we need video refs if we are going to have absolute howlers still go missing. Get rid of them.

Beauden Barrett should not be near an AB 10 Jersey. The older he gets, the worse he gets.

Just signed a long term contract with the ABs to "close out" his career in NZ.

By the time he is 40 playing First five for the AB's he should still be able to kick the ball 5 metres.

Poor execution on the last play from scrummage there. Not quite sure what the plan was and wondering why they didn’t go left with the numbers.

I like Aumua on the bench. He’s more effective when the game has broken down a little and good to have him at the business end. Canes have some lads in that team now.

And as for Hoskins, looks like he’s added some steak to go with the sizzle. Helluva game from him.

@Kirwan True. But while tackling Moorby, Dalton tried to pull his head off so maybe the TMO thought if he gave the try it wouldn't end up a yellow and PT.

Yep I wondered the same at the time. Thought Dalton had given away a penalty try so that is why they left it at a try.

@Kirwan while that shows clear separation, I think his arm regained 'contact' before it touched the ground, meaning it was again in 'control'

For me, the much clearer part of it was the fact it was well short, and even the post grounding roll didnt seem to make the line.

Agreed. So much grey area for interpretation and same with what Dalton could and could not do to prevent the score.

You can't regain control by forcing it on the ground.

@Kirwan if he regains 'contact' prior to the ground, then it isn't lost....we've seen examples of that previously where contact is all that is required, as opposed to control.

Either way, it shouldn't have been awarded.

    @Stargazer around the body.

If you are going to show acts that need to be looked at, the Blues guy getting dropped on his head is a good place to start.

Apparently if two Canes players do it it’s not a yellow card.

@Kirwan You always see something like this as an "attack" on your Blues boys. No need to be so defensive; it wasn't one. It just appeared on my time line, last night and I was wondering whether it was worth looking at. No need to reply with a "but look at those two Canes players" ...

Thought a clear yellow card at the time. Rieko personifies this Blues team for me, so talented, but just does stupid things at times.

Looked a seatbelt to me, not a neck roll.

In general, though, Rugby has a huge issue with how the hell you legally shift people on the ball. It's really hard, and the outcome seems to be those missile-style cleanouts that aren't good for anyone, and lead to injuries and cards.

@Stargazer sadly we are still seeing too many examples of players grabbing at the head/neck area this season already at rucks and mauls, and also charging into rucks needlessly, coaches need to be on top of this stuff as they will be the ones (along with me) moaning about red cards

the corollary to this is good, clear direction from World Rugby that is consistently and emphatically enforced by referees and judiciaries. That moves the risk/reward. Right now, smart coaching is to take the chance at critical moments, because it's a coin flip if you do or not, and the reward for avoiding penalties is not strong enough.

    Anyway, I'm a dreamer

It was good to see the Blues narrow up their game from the first two rounds. Forwards, RTS and Clarke running closer to the ruck and they committed more numbers to the breakdown.
