There is no way with the talent they have the Blues should lose a game like that. Is the players or the coaches? Same weaknesses in ABs. In ability to play % and apply pressure. They played their best rugby with 13 when they held the ball.

Same coach killing players that are in the ABs.

But hey, it’s Foster that wrecks them and Rangi will join Razor to put things right……

Try to keep your bitterness to the Foster/Robertson thread you love so much.

Why. It’s a valid observation. Nothing bitter.
When talking AB failings the coach gets the blame.
The same players have just aired their failings in this game at a lower level under a supposedly better coach.
Maybe it’s a pointer to where some of the problems lie?

@Crucial I think Rangi will be a good assistant under Razor at international level but I'm not convinced he's a great head coach at the top level, he is guilty of poor selections & he doesn't use his bench effectively, Blues could've won that game if they had used their bench properly..

@kiwi_expat yeah aside from DP who looked to have a minor injury, looked like he took off most of his better players fairly early.

@Chris I believe DMac was better than Ritchie in Rd2. Either way BB is not up our man at 10.

BB has never been a tactical or game managing 10.
His abilities are more in taking advantage of situations in front of him.
Not what we need at test level against good teams.
He should have steered that game around but was pretty average.

Sure. But he's an average player.

Blues did well on defence. Gave up no penalties in own half second half under lots of pressure. Brumbies should have won comfortably but for that.
Rieko just does not cut it at 13 for me. I thought Christie was pretty good unlike others. Riccitelli and Robinson were too.

@KiwiMurph hes getting game time with a good team ,you dont get better sitting in your number 1s
Your quick to critique Tua who is still getting use to playing a completely different style
Funny thing is the Blues actually offered him a contract but even Tua knew he would get little game time
He would’nt be the first player at the Blues that has been stuck in the squad never to recieve game time but has succeed once they left
Over the years theres been some players at the Blues who have had opportunities for Africa but never delivered
Had a great NPC based on form but previously has had a wretched time with injuries

What did others think of Perofeta? I noticed some good play and a willingness to get involved. It didn’t translate to much though. He doesn’t seem to make much impact with his touches despite not making errors.
In a RWC squad his spot is under pressure from both Stevenson and DMac

    Needs game-time at Test level.

    Need to sub Christie.

Given how well I thought his replacement played, this probably happened a little too late. Not an easy decision to sub an AB halfback off when it’s a close game and you are down on the scoreboard.

Sheesh scoreless second half. What a slog.

That’s a Brumbies game for ya! They love an arm wrestle.

But it was a hot afternoon in Melbourne and I reckon the conditions may have played a part.

I thought Christie was fine - good last week and this week. Does his core stuff well, particularly under pressure. Not error free, but solid - and distributes reasonably well.

Funaki looked bloody good though, but I still wouldn't start him. Would stick with Christie for now.

We did not play that ref at all well. Conceded massive penalties - I'll go and look it up, but we weren't good enough to overlcome it.

17-9 Penalty count. 5 points. Frustrating watch.

I agree with most of that.

However I would dispute Tua had a 'great' npc - he was serviceable but still had a high error rate as he usually does - (when he wasn't injured). Obviously much better than the likes of Hohaia but cripes that dude is a club player.

He made the right call going to Brumbies. Better than being stuck on the bench/not playing.

Completely agree certain players get way more chances than others.

I find Tua gets a free ride on here though. Because he plays for Northland his shortcomings get overlooked because he flashes talent every now and then or because people know him personally or something. It's weird.

@KiwiMurph i will agree thats its taken him time to deliver especially for the Taniwha .he is still a concern defensively but hoping consistant game time and coaching will address that ..hopefully

@nzzp I thought Christie got a bit rattled. And then the errors/bad decisions started piling up. I like how he plays and he’s a tough bugger, but they needed to speed the game up and I thought Christie was a bit of a handbrake.

really? Cant say I've seen that.

I agree he has struggled to impose himself at super level, but I also agree with @Steven-Harris that it would be an interesting transition from a more attack focused Blues side to a more forward focused Brumbies team with a different playing style too.

Not sure many players get a free ride on here (sure more often provincial bias) as there is always someone there to poke holes in someones game and people to back them up | similarly, there are always those that see the silver lining all the time, and people to back them up.

At 25 years, he has time, plus the talent to succeed at super, but whether he has the top 2 inches to get him there...

Speaking of Tua, interestingly the the Brumbies (the best Oz team) have two NZ midfielders (Sapsford) in their squad, and one of the others was born in NZ and moved to Oz as a youngster.

For me the moment that stands out the most is in the 35th min when BoK was giving Dalton another discipline warning and Paps responded by asking if he could talk to the team? Mate, that horse left the stable about 30 mins ago. Goodness me.

Has to be Beauden’s worst game in SR. Excuse my hyperbole.

It seemed to me he was clearing out rucks (often first there) and trying to support players in collisions, work that bigger bodies with that mahi in their contract should have been doing.... I thought he did alright considering the lack of support.
