@Higgins not really in line with your question, but this was QI.
Her entire argument boils down to "they can, so they do, and because we agreed to it, we have to take them".
A situation another island on the other side of the world dealt with neatly, until a change of government fucked it all up.

@MajorRage If the UK is such an allegedly racist country why of why do a huge proportion of people seeking refugee status try to get there rather than settling for places like Greece or Bulgaria?
Because they’re all racist as well. Typical of foreigners.

A few reasons, of which some are legitimate and some aren't. Zoe Gardners point there are the real genuine reasons. And these are the people that should be following the legal routes and will in all likelihood get asylum.
The boat people are rather different. And honestly, it's a question nobody has ever really been able to answer. I'm 100% all for hard working refugees. But these boat people are just not right and the reasons need to be clearly explained without political or racial prejudice. Why are they majority young men and with a higher than expected percentage from Albania? It's a fair question which the taxpayers deserve a fair, and without prejudice, answer.

How so?
I'm pretty smashed... but the first 50% of that video... if the statistics are correct, are... absolutely nothing like that. -

I'm pretty smashed... but the first 50% of that video... if the statistics are correct, are... absolutely nothing like that. The 86% that stay don't possess the financial means to pay people smuggling operators. They're also more likely to be families, or women, or children, or women with young children. The vast majority of those "refugees" country shopping are young men.

Yeah that is completely different to what I got out of it! Made a lot of sense to my ignorant arse, who'd always said the same thing.
Fuck having to learn Dutch if you already know English.

He asked about Calais, are you referencing something more like boat people?
-
@Bones And yeah - sounds like debating about 2 different things.
Genuine refugees, and "country-shopping young men".
And... 2 different discussions. But... conflated into one by people for convenience/reasons.
Possibly - because it is difficult to differentiate, but possibly... reasons. -

There aren't Africans in Calais seeking to get into England?

@antipodean probably because they speak English or have family or other ties maybe.

Well that's exactly what I was thinking about your question, so I just rolled with it.
I'm not "trying to make a point" if it helps.

Don’t know what’s worse. Matt Hancock’s complete naivety in trusting a known snake, or Isobel Oakeshott’s absolute disregard for an NDA in handing over 100k of WhatsApp messages to the Telegraph. I don’t particularly like Hancock but I think she’s bang out of order when there is already an inquiry underway and he has been complicit with providing all the information and sources he’s been requested to stump up.
She’s actually employed under the Murdoch umbrella , but didn’t even leak this to one of his papers. She went a rival. What a complete and utter fluffybunny.

It's a dirty bit f business all round isn't it. Laughable to some degree. ie Matt Hancock complaining about "a massive betrayal"
Matt Hancock. Who flouted the lockdown rules that he had a hand in setting out.
I suppose if anyone is well placed to recognise "a massive betrayal" it is that hypocrite.

Fuck Hancock
Getting his commupance

Agree.
But Oakshotte should be in jail. Otherwise all NDA on British law hold zero water.
She must be made an example of as what she’s done is completely contemptible.

I can't believe there are a bunch of adults sitting in a room talking about how bad it is that a kid drew in a book. That's one of the most pathetic things I've ever seen in my life.
