I remember the ex-Mrs Meldrew, who was a professional musician, telling me his stuff was really complex but sounded so very simple and accessible. Only one opinion, but she rated him up there with Gershwin & Shubert musically.
He must be up there in terms of most recorded songwriter in the last 80 years

Must be close. He's been ubiquitous for 7 whole decades and, according to Wiki, had his first hit in 1952. Extraordinary body of work which rivals Macca.

Rita Hayworth was another woman that to do that , she even had to change her appearance. I imagine the 1940s version of electrolysis they used to alter her hairline was fairly brutal

Nice gritty parts in three of my all time favourite movies ever….True Romance, Heat and Saving Private Ryan.
Outstanding flicks and he played his part in all of them being as brilliant as they are.

The actor, best known for his tough-guy roles in war and action movies including Black Hawk Down, also had a turbulent private life
