@Chris They had option to go with Heinrich but decided he was "too inexperienced" or some poor justification NZR would trot-out, ironically he was the same age (37) as Hesson when he got the job in 2013.
Edit, found it:
"The job of coaching the New Zealand men's team had reportedly come down to a two-horse race between Stead and Malan with the former, as it turned out, predicted to cross the line by a neck."
"Reportedly, Malan was seen as "a little too early" for the job although the irony was Hesson was appointed when he was 37."
Yes Heinrich has the SA White ball job now.

Heinrich Malan
You're thinking of Rob Walter.
Heinrich is currently coaching Ireland & is doing an outstanding job.
They finished 2nd in group B - beating Scotland & West Indies and then upset eventual champions England.
He's clearly the best candidate to take over the Black Caps after the 2023 World Cup.

He must be enjoying bowling with the new ball for a change.
he was a pretty boy fast bowler for Otago before switching to first change and dominating. Frustrating NB for the first delivery ... little things really count in Tests.
Southee a key here for us, and he's starting to bowl on the pads too much

We are already in trouble.
Imagine - could have had Boult with Southee, and Wags at first change.
Stead you muppet.

This is hardly surprising.

this BazBall shit seems to be effective in a lot of conditions. Respect.
Also, FAAAAAARRRRRRKKKKK
They've won 9 of their last 10 tests.
We've won 2 of our last 11 tests.
This is hardly surprising.
That's an absolutely incredible turnaround under Baz. Must be one of the biggest impacts a coach has ever had on an international test side. They were beyond shit before he took over. Gotta give Baz a lot of credit for what he's achieved there.
