I'm not sure, the story seems to be flooded rivers etc, this sort of shit isn't going away soon. That's Hawkes Bay

Totally. Not downplaying anything, just noticing that apart from northland, most affected areas have only patchy further rain at the moment. That may at least allow some drain clearing etc to take place.
Won't help areas already flooded or downstream much. -
we didnt have alot of rain in the last 12 hours or so, but man the wind was intense!! We have been fortunate to have no damage aside from a few branches come down...
Still without power, cell coverage intermittent...so come to work for coffee & shower and recharge devices.

Our lock predated us buying the house - but I am a bit cautious of those connected locks. Havea few friends in IT security,and they aren't enthusiastic.
When all is said and done, locks make you feel safer, but doors come out of frames, windows get broken, etc.

I'm under zero illusion security wise and have always been of the mind that f someone wants in they will find a way in no problem (I do so myself).
Key locks are just as easily bypassed as electronic. If you think anything with a key is secure you need to watch some 'lock picking lawyer' videos on youtube.
Locks are only there to slow people down or remove opportunist situations.
This is probably a discussion for another time/thread though. -

No way the Chiefs would have wanted to be training outside yesterday afternoon. Rain and strong winds all evening and into the early morning in the Waikato. Plenty of trees have fallen down, including outside a house across the road from me, but thankfully no major flooding compared to up north.

@Crucial Yes, I've family members and friends who have had to evacuate. It's awful in many areas in Hawke's Bay. Almost all of Eskdale is flooded, Omahu and more.
Very hard to reach people by phone or internet.

Looking like the pre-season games on Friday will still go ahead?I'm guessing that the Women's Waratahs team my not make it across the ditch given flight disruptions.
I live in Hamilton but know that there is flooding and slips in Te Kohanga by the river. A Civil Defence base set up at Onewhero Rugby club. My mum is in Tuakau, everything ok there, the neighbour lost half a tree. The last event was worse I think.
Here in Hamilton it was constant rain but not too heavy. A lot of wind. I can hear chainsaws today. Blue cloudy sky today with wind.

A friend of mine is scheduled to fly into Auckland airport at midday on Monday. Might get a bit hairy.
Did he get in? I must admit yesterday morning I thought what is all the fuss about but the Auckland weather got waaay worse and i realised we were just very very lucky with the timing of our flight.
Have had to cancel the planned trip to hot water beach, my parents refused the camp offer of a refund saying they know they need the money - owner was really grateful says he will shout the staff morning tea with it. So we head directly to rotorua instead.
Have experienced a few kiwi classics today: flat white, cheese scones…and single-glazed windows…
