England v Scotland 6N

A lot of credit must go to referee Paul Williams , called brilliant advantages and kept the game flowing ..very few turnovers in the first half , can see why the Scots gave the ABs such a fright .
Superb game. -
Watched the game in the pub which is not best for a critical overview but great from an enjoyment of the experience perspective. Given that caveat, my thoughts are that primarily England seemed to be playing several different defensive patterns, they were all over the place. VDM’s try a case in point. Well taken and all and we can point at some poor tackling but where was the structure in the first place?
In attack it was much the same story. Was anyone on the same page once it got close to the line? 2 well worked tries showed what we could do but it was almost like they were accidents.
Can anyone explain the logic of box kicking when you’re hot on attack in the last third of the field when the opposition are all at sea? Time after time? When it hasn’t worked previously?
Thought not.
Enough whinging. Well done to the Jocks, who took their limited opportunities very well and were good value for the win.
Oh and welcome back @Luigi
What a fucking horrible day to be an Englishman eh?

Is there anything better than watching England lose?
Well done Scotland.
Marcus Smith isn't getting any better, England fans.
2-1 ya bread stealer. 2-1!

Very good defensive pattern when it was a standing line with no breaks, but the first line was breached and then the cover compressed, and forgot where VDM's legs were.
First line: 12 and 13 too far apart on the chase - neither got close.
Second line: covering forwards who were running straight upfield instead of diagonally to cover a break. One hand on.
Third line: 15 who gets stepped but didn't exactly rush the carrier.
Fourth line: 9 who gets stepped covering so somewhat forgiveable.
Last line: think it was the #8 who went way too high 10 metres out as he chased back. -

Absolutely superb game of rugby.
England are very close to being a real threat, Scotland are already there. I said our Autumn win over them wasn’t celebrated enough, what will it take to realize Scotland are a seriously good team?
I’ve been pushing Finn Russel big time as one of the games best talents and I think he played the worst I’ve ever seen him. Accuracy was off and lost every kicking dual.
Yet, Scotland still won. Something to ponder.

They’ve ALWAYS lifted against England though only to stumble in the following game against anyone not Italy.
I’m not getting too excited yet.

Thought it was noteworthy that the excellent England try to Malins had zero involvement from Marcus Smith.
He adds very little.
Don't write him off completely. Kid does have talent and it isn't his fault that 10s like him are rare in England so he is developing while playing.
Agree that he currently isn't up to speed but he could get there and be very good.
His (lack of) defence is about at the same poor level that BB and RM showed when they first played tests. -

When they beat the ABs

That enormous gap Smith left for Scotland's first try. Looks like England have their own Mo'unga.

20:29 on the clock and England go diving off their feet at a ruck and Williams ignores it, only to penalise Scotland for not supporting bodyweight 21 seconds later.
It's like a Scottish player pointing it out results in the following cementing itself in his brain: Scotland, ruck, penalty.
