@taniwharugby When I arrived back from Europe everyone thought I was a Pom. In England everyone thought I was an Aussie (the shame - the shame).

I did meet a linguist in Helsinki in 81 who taught me how to pronounce 'e" words like Ben Pen etc instead of the Kiwi Bin Pin. Said we are lazy speakers we typically make the shape of consonants but don't necessarily pronounce them.

I was often told in the UK that I didn't have much of an accent but that was because I had learned in past visits to slow my speech just a little.

@crucial I've told this before but where I worked in London the old cleaner was saying to everyone he thought I sounded strange not from round here like. Everyone said he's a fucking Kiwi you dim old fluffybunny. His classic reply was "Oh - I thought he was from somewhere really foreign..... like Newcastle" and he meant it.

@crucial yeah people didnt think I had much of an accent, and I deliberately emphasised any word my colleagues took the piss out of me about (ten, bed, etc)

I did have to tell a guy over the phone what the weather was like in the town I was working to prove I was in the UK as opposed to in a call centre in NZ...

It’s Piers Morgan but this is worth a read. I didn’t quite agree with his column on Biles, but google is clearly trying to control the narrative here:

My self imposed crap media blackout meant I had not idea about this case until a friend brought this up at a dinner party last night.

It's all very very odd alright.

Surely the police have more than nothing ... but are publishing that to keep people thinking about potentially recollecting.

Either that or it really is a complete mystery.

Quite cheap for a hand made product, I always thought test quality balls would be thousands. Less than a hundred for a 'counties international' level
