Merry Christmas

Merry Christmas all. We have precisely zero plans this year which is amazing. First Christmas in our own home so just gonna relax and eat/drink plenty.
Thanks for all of the laughs, arguments and memes this year. We live in crazy, crazy times, and this is a great place to try to make sense of some of the more insane world events that have unfolded, like Fosters ABs winning in Jburg.
Hope you all get to have an awesome break with friends and family.

No probs, glad you enjoyed them.
Everyone enjoy the break, spend as much time as humanly possible doing fuck all but eating and drinking and then hop on the scales after a couple of days one or two kg up and do your darndest to madly burn your excess Xmas lard with skipping or some other form of cardio…..then congratulate yourself on all your hard work and start eating and drinking again.

My family are in Kernow for Xmas, so it's just me, the dog, and the cat. Pretty weird. But have a good one, everyone

Tell them to pop into see @Victor-Meldrew He always opens a bottle of something decent over Christmas.
Well, according to him anyway.

We get on a plane Christmas eve and will arrive to have our first Christmas with my parents since my son was 18 months old (he's 4 and a half now). He's buzzing, my parents are buzzing, and my wife and I are finally feeling like life is starting to get back to some sort of normal.
I'll be drinking a Steiny Pure by lunchtime on Christmas (fuck you fluffybunnies who don't like it) then we'll start on the god-knows-what-feast my mother will be cooking up with a bunch of kiwi pinots that I got delivered from Chard Farm.
Merry Xmas all you grumpy fluffybunnies.

If I was there I'd certainly look him up, or we could meet in the Blue Anchor for Christmas Spingo Beer!

Haven't been to The Blue Anchor in years, though a mate went there a couple of years back. Do they still just do Top, Middle and Bottom?

Last time I was there, yup - but that was pre Covid, so a while ago. Great stuff, I hope it's still going

Nadelek Lowen!
Sounds weird, but one of my best Christmases was on my own. Was absolutely shattered mentally and physically from work and spent 2 days reading, sleeping & watching TV. My then GF came over day after Boxing Day and cooked me a Christmas dinner.

If it wasn’t for the joy on the kids faces I’d be keen for one of those now.

Merry Christmas to all on the Fern. Will be a very different, but traditional Christmas
Everything revolves around Mrs M's elderly mum. We are in Kent, travelling down on Christmas Eve so see Mrs M's mum in the nursing home on Christmas Eve afternoon, then Christmas Eve night with her sister and BiL - which is always great fun with loads of laughter and whisky-tasting. Christmas Day is visiting the nursing home in the morning before turkey with Mrs M's kids before we head back on Boxing Day.
We've decided not to give bought presents to each other this year, but stuff like home-knitted jumpers, sloe gin etc. Will be a different, but traditional Christmas

Best christmas day I've ever had was just me and my mate hanging out without any family, chilly bin on the lawn, no worries.
I'm seriously considering doing it again this year - but just me, and beach. If the weather turns ever so slightly, that's locked in... otherwise, it'll be a 24th of riding SH43-Taihape-Napier, a day of keeping family happy, then a boxing-day of riding Napier-Taihape-SH43.

The whole whanau seem to have cut down the alcohol a fair bit this year. No vintage port this Christmas as it wouldn't get drunk on Christmas Day. Probably a decent Pinot & a Chablis with the Turkey on Christmas Day.
That said, the BiL and me are organising a little whisky tasting for Christmas Eve.

Is that the gravel road that goes thru Erewhon? Remember riding that in my youth.

There's still 10km of gravel road on SH43 - used to be much more - but it's Stratford-Whangamomona-Taumaranui... Erewhon is South Island?

Just down the road (A30). We're in Kent this Christmas, sadly

Standard Xmas day for me with the wife’s whanau, though the first one with my mum no longer alive - even though we didn’t see her in person every year, it’ll be odd to not at least have gifts from her for the kids to open and no video call to make at 8am.
Have a great Christmas everyone, thanks for all the bullshit throughout the year, this place is nothing if not therapeutic!
Here’s to 2023 and whatever it throws at us!
