People call for 'ignorant' Do They Know It's Christmas? to be pulled from the air

People call for 'ignorant' Do They Know It's Christmas? to be pulled from the air

The 1984 Band Aid hit Do They Know It's Christmas? has been slammed for its 'ignorant' lyrics, with some calling on it to be pulled from the air

It’s better than Snoopys Christmas or Fairytail of New York to be fair

Don't care. I like the song. It takes me back to that magical feeling of Christmas and war that I felt as a wee boy. Feelings that probably only lasted a few short years.

My parents still have the 45 and God it's good.

It is a good song. Actually the first "new" Christmas pop song I can remember. Pretty much unknown here in the UK for some reason.

    Cos its shit.

You are a monster. You probably think Puff the Magic Dragon is shit too.

Na I occasionally rock out to a bit of Peter, Paul and Mary on car rides.

They don't seem to know it in Aussie either. Or at the least the people I have asked don't.

    I can confirm this.

Bloke who ran Whamageddon at work added some obscure song I had never heard of about an ex-con cooking a roast as an additional elimination element.

    I suggested adding Snoopy.

Guy was dumbfounded and looked at me weird.

    Wiki says:

"Snoopy's Christmas" reached the No. 1 position in the New Zealand and Australia[4] singles charts in 1967, and remains a popular Christmas song in those countries. The song was the fastest-selling single at the time it was originally released and is estimated to be the biggest selling overseas single sold in New Zealand in the 20th century.[5] The song frequently reenters the New Zealand singles chart, charting in December 1987, 1988, 1989, and 2013.[6] "Snoopy's Christmas" was also voted "the worst Christmas song of all time" by readers of the New Zealand Herald in 2007.[7]

Elsewhere I read it was only a hit in their home US State (which I can't remember) and NZ. Aussies obviously forgot after the first release.

(Same guy, in his 40s I'd venture, had similarly never heard of 'Does Your Chewing Gum Lose It's Flavour', or ' I'm Henery The Eighth, I Am'.)

No mate, she’s a fucking horrible woman. Just listen to those lyrics; “I don’t want a lot for Christmas, all I want is you”. She’s fucking telling her bloke he’s worthless. Complete bitch.

Worthless but still gets to nail Mariah Carey.

I think he can cope with that put down.

The same for me and a real disappointment finding that it is simply a pastiche of their great hit Snoopy vs The Red Baron. Classics like that should be left alone.

    @Catogrande

they also had The Return of The Red Baron, Snoopy for President and Snoopy vs Osama

Red Bull chose their 'hit' Airplane as the theme song for the Flugtag series

    all of which were shit

Not as shit as Grandma got run over by a Reindeer or Sanat Baby but for me the hatiest of all is

and it brings the thread back on topic. PC for beginners
