@mariner4life astburys voice is one of the greats

Not only that but in his prime he had the best frontman moves going. Epitome of rock star.

@mariner4life always been a massive fan of early version of The Cult. Never understood how Fire Woman and She Sells Sanctuary weren't bigger hits.

Both did ok chart and sales wise. SSS double platinum and must still pay a few bills.

I’m glad it didn’t go higher in mainstream charts to be honest. Seen too many bands wrecked by the one hit wonder tag.
Rick Rubin turned their sound into clones of AC/DC, but man it was done well. Not a genre I am a big fan of but even I can’t help cranking up that Electric album from time to time.
SSS is definitely in my all time top 100

The Cult are ranked about right for me.

Not quite in the GnR, Metallica, Pearl Jam, Foos division but probably “slumming it” with ( arguably better ) bands like Faith no More, STP, Alice in Chains etc ?

I’m fairly sure the first group would have sold over 100 million records apiece, the second less so.

Which era of the Cult are you eating though? Goth/Post punk or rock?

I actually thought Fire Woman and She Sells Sanctuary were big hits, I mean I know them well and I'm not an old bogan like all you lot.

I actually think I had an RTR Countdown magazine that had a big write up about them in the late 80s or early 90s. 🙂

    @MajorRage

Turns out to play “Never going back again” by Fleetwood Mac I need a capo…..

So next cab of the rank was this great track, being strumming the acoustic all avo thanks to YouTube.

Funny learning unusual chords after playing bass for so long.

Scott and the boys in terrific form and Sarah Michelle Geller HAF. What the hell ever happened to her ?

His maturing was obviously a long journey. But if being a giant dick was what was necessary to make the music, well ..

I'm real slow on the uptake here. Didn't realise that there has been a post-punk revival in the north of England recently.
    Derivate but bloody well done.

These guys sound like they grew up having picnics at Ian Curtis' grave

Then this lot jumped straight to New Order and mixed in a bit of Stone Roses
