Hurricanes 2023

@Canes4life Very, very young, too. Bason signed straight out of school. Tuputupu one year out of school. Especially with forwards, their workload will have to be carefully managed.
-
Carlos Hihi running around with the Hurricanes:
-
@Canes4life He's a first five-eighth straight out of Gisborne Boys'.
He was one of three Poverty Bay players invited to attend the Hurricanes U18 Development Camp, two months ago.
He wasn't initially named in the Tūranga Tāne (Poverty Bay Development) team, but played at least one game for that team against Thames Valley Development, this year.
Not much else to find about him on google, except this:
https://www.teaomaori.news/talented-9-year-old-wins-gold-auckland-international-judo-championship
He must have moved from Rotorua Boys' to Gisborne Boys', because in this team list of the New Zealand U16 Touch team of 2020 (posted by Rotorua Boys' HS), he was listed as from Bay of Plenty.

@Stargazer Yeah look what he did for the Lions forward pack which is essentially the Canes forward pack anyway.
Uhm, Wellington may have the largest representation in the Canes overall and in their forward pack, but the majority of Hurricanes forwards doesn't play for Wellington.

@mikey07 Instead of Chris Gibbes, the current forwards coach?
or maybe instead of Jamie Mackintosh?
they could've moved Gibbes to scrum and Paul Tito forwards/line-out
-
@kiwi_expat totally agree I fail to see why Mackintosh is actually there.

Aumua, Numia, Blackwell, Bird, Kirifi, Delany, Lakai are all in the Lions squad, and will all likely play big mins next year for the Canes. That’s a good chunk of the Hurricanes forwards even when you don’t include Savea and Coles. I know there are also a lot of quality forwards from Manawatu, BOP and HB that will complete for positions. Would have been good to have Fish on board, better option than Mackintosh.
I see what @mikey07 is saying though. That Lions lineout was top notch. The way Delany, Bird and Blackwell played this year was a level above previous seasons and big ups must go to Tito for that.

Certainly would of been good to see Tito on the Cane's coaching staff Canes, Like you I impressed with what he did for Lions, Leo Crowley was telling me he thought he had some good knowledgeetc, and I would of been keen on seeing him bring Lakai etc to another level, especially as Ardie heads over for the yen in 2024 so will need a bit of experience at 8, although I think Flanders goes pretty well there.

The road to the Hurricanes has been quite a journey for Josh Southall. This paints a picture of what he’s gone through since making the NZ Schools as a year 12 a few years back. I really hope his career thrives from here.

Billy Proctor coming in first place, Cam Roigard in second, and Josh Southall in third. Interestingly Ruben Love who has won this comfortably the two years prior either didn't partake or didn't finish in the top 3.
