It's totally absurd that the top 4 teams in world are stuffed in two groups and stacked on one side of the draw of this tournament. Why was the draw done so early?
We have known this for ages which is why the cries about our chances need to be tempered with the knowledge that two of the top four teams in the world are guaranteed a quarterfinal exit.
Here’s hoping Ireland take their traditional spot at least.
Another way to look at it is that two teams ranked 5 and below are guaranteed a ride to the semifinals and are two performances away from winning the cup. That’s just silly.Why?
Wales could magically turn things around and have a great 6N (there is precedent) and a winning pre-WC campaign which could see them beat France, Ireland, Scotland, Italy, England 3 times, and SA

This is a good point. A year to go is a long time in sports. Who knows what the rankings will be next year when the cup starts. It does seem excessively soon to set the draw. But WR are putting on a show and it allows fans clarity to book tickets to the games they want. Getting the rankings accurate is probably a secondary consideration

That is totally unacceptable. So Portugal will be playing with no support/ supporters at all!

Is it just me or is this starting early this year?
First match 9 September!
Comparing to 2019 kick off was 20 September.
2015 on 18 September.
2007 was comparable on 7 September.
1999 was 1 October.
1991 20 October.
(Not comparing 2011 coz it was down our way, but even 2003 waited till October .. prolly to avoid the Aussie footy finals.
And 1987 and 1995 were obviously early winter in May and June.)

@booboo I only checked 2007, 2015 and 2019 and compared them to 2023, and the RWC lasted 6 weeks in those years. In 2023, the RWC will last 7 weeks. Maybe that's the reason?
