    Fucking brilliant

    Argentina 1-2 Saudi Arabia

    Massive, massive result

    Breaks 36 game win streak

Saudis were fucking good. That defensive shape just fucked Argentina, and they had good pace to snuff out any half breaks

VAR has changed how teams defend. They Saudis cut a fine line last night, but VAR bailed them out 3 times. Teams have a higher line and rely on VAR making it very hard to beat the trap.

    Both Saudi goals were great

And now Australia have scored first v France

seriously I think Argentina must have thought this was in the bag after 30 minutes, they had found the back of the net multiple times (most not given) and must have thought they had it in the bag.

Not all bad for them though, if they qualify second in that pool and KSA first then I think they end up with better draw.

Mexico and Poland yet to enter the chat of course

Mexico and Poland drawing 0-0 made the loss far less drastic.

Argentina just sort of stopped. Saudi gave them their 30m of territory, and were happy to watch Argentina play square balls along their backline. There was no run through the middle, di Maria did fuck all when they did get him out. It was basically like they sat around waiting for Messi to do something cool.

    Terrible play.

like the strategy out of the Barcelona playbook near the end of his time there.. didn't work for them either (among other problems of course)

Bet there were a heap more Saudis than Indians dressed as Argentineans in that stadium.

I forgot how fast the group stage goes in the world cup. The pacing is fantastic, really keeps the tournament moving. I get the reason why rugby, league etc need longer breaks but it's still a selling point for this tournament.

One of the reasons Rugby wants to expand RWCs and possibly split into a plate type comp. You can schedule more midweek games.

Aren't FIFA shifting to a 48 team comp and 3 team groups next World Cup? Seems overkill

Just telling my son how awesome the 98 World Cup was

So we went through the team lists

Some of the squads were frankly ridiculous. Just amazing players everywhere.

Long road back for Germany. The match up with Spain is basically a must win for them. Could be out in the group stage twice in a row.

Yes. They setup very defensively against NZ, so that obviously didn't work for Spain. 🤣

Football Associations to discuss quitting FIFA after being silenced during World Cup

Football Associations to discuss quitting FIFA after being silenced during World Cup

Denmark will have conversations with other member nations from UEFA, including England, about leaving FIFA, after issues over protests during the World Cup

cant see it happening, either fifa will fold, apologise, promise to do better or these countries would fold if fifa called their bluff...but...the tiny part of my that loves some anarchy would love to see it

UEFA could survive without FIFA. No one else though I think. Aside from Brazil and Argentina other countries outside Europe don’t generally offer much at the pointy end. But a FIFA World Cup without uefa countries woujd be a dud.

@Billy-Tell someone just reminded me that UEFA and their south american equivalent have an existing memorandum of understand re several things (ref exchanges programs etc), if they did align to leave FIFA it could be very interesting to watch
