Portugal are going to the RWC!!

The game between the USA and Portugal ended in a 16 all draw, but Portugal goes through on a better points differential.

An exciting game to watch, with so much at stake. Portugal deserved the win with much more entreprising, positive rugby. The USA looked nervous and scared for most the game and were way too passive, except maybe in the final quarter.

Portugal were leading until the USA scored a try in the 60th minute. They scored a penalty in the 80th minute to get the draw.

NZ and Italy is even worse. It will be 7 of the 10 RWCs.

An A vs D and B vs C crossover for the quarters would have so much more credibility..

Hmmmm, so that Kenyan double yellow ended up being a big deal after all, possibly eliminated USA.

They really cocked up the draw this time didn't they, as teams don't go to the other side? In other words, we can't have the two best teams from the same pool meet in the final, or did I get that wrong?

You can as there’s a crossover in the semifinals. A NZ v FRA final is possible

They've always used A vs B and C vs D in the QFs.

The problem comes from the allocation of the teams to the Pools, based on the bands at that time.

As we've discussed the rankings can change a lot between then and the tournament.

Absolutely disgusting and incompetent that the pools are named so early

Horror result for USA but was on the cards with their chancy selections.

No USA or Canada. South America will be happier with Uruguay and Chile, as well as Argentina.

It's totally absurd that the top 4 teams in world are stuffed in two groups and stacked on one side of the draw of this tournament. Why was the draw done so early?

I guess they didn't want the league to feel lonely with odd world cup draws?

We have known this for ages which is why the cries about our chances need to be tempered with the knowledge that two of the top four teams in the world are guaranteed a quarterfinal exit.
Here’s hoping Ireland take their traditional spot at least.
Another way to look at it is that two teams ranked 5 and below are guaranteed a ride to the semifinals and are two performances away from winning the cup. That’s just silly.
