2023 World Sevens Series

I don't get why we benched our better players for the big matches.
A repeat horror fest from Moses Leo v Oz. Scored from only ball he didn't knock on but has to be the laziest defender and least accurate passer in the squad. If you are the gas man you should sprint to cover a line break and not stop and watch. And pass just in front of a player running on to it... I know he can do better. May just be in 15s mode mentally still. We looked more dangerous with Carter NG Shiu and Rokolisoa playing. Kurt Baker is not our best option as playmaker. Collier Dickson and Ware all do enough good things but are let down by others before it gets wide to them.
Angry spiel done. Tough draw and first matches in a while. Also without Curry and Mikkelsen. Onwards and upwards.

@booboo He's been there for a while now, isn't he? When did Tietjens leave?
Bit of a gap post Titch till they got him on board. But at guess at least 5 years.

@Stargazer i know they are chasing a couple of boys from the NZ under 20s but in all seriousness something needs to change
Do you know which players?
Happy to have not watched any of this tournament.

@Bovidae As posted in the Blues 2023 thread, they have signed Payton Spencer.
Yeah, I posted myself that Spencer was likely to be involved in the sevens a while ago.
There are a few outside backs from the U20s/U19s that would be useful. I also think that Liam Coombes-Fabling should be part of their squad.

That Baker pass to no one turned the game and the Aussies just took control thereafter. Frustrating.

The commentator just explained that the number of men's core nations will be reduced from 16 to 14(?) next year.
At the end of the 2023 Series, the team finishing 16th will be automatically relegated.
Teams placed 12 through to 15 go to the annual Challenger Series to determine who remain core nations or who get promoted to the core nations.
