I assume the squads could be named next week, after the NPC finishes and before the focus is on the AB tour.

As yet, no direct replacements for Lowe and Tiatia have been announced, despite the rumours.

Sometimes it is hard to remember just how young some players are and how to judge their performances against their experience.
ENS has been around long enough that we expect to see reasonably mature performances but he is only really just clocking up enough experience to work out his own game at top levels (eg the stepping and jinking gets shut down quickly against a decent defence)
He was showing some very good signs in NPC until injury and it was fair to say that losing him was a very big loss.
With Stevenson finally getting rid of his brain explosions and losing the 'WTF' moments there may be a good back three forming using resources that we already have.

For Chiefs I would take a look at using ENS at 15 and Stevenson on the wing. Stevenson was very effective on the wing for the Maori and ENS has looked sharp at 15 for Counties. Probably could use a power wing alongside to compliment that back 3.

Kini Naholo is at the chiefs for 2023.

@KiwiMurph would like to see Narawa and Wrampling as both have huge upside potential. Just don't think that ENS tactical awareness is quick enough to react at super level yet or maybe he just instinctively does what worked as a schoolboy. If he can avoid all the hesitations and stutters into defence he could be very good. Just needs to get into top gear much quicker.

I saw Wrampling from a distance at the NZ Schools game last Sat, talking to his brother. Hopefully his knee is on the mend.

ENS looked great at fullback at NPC level but whether that translates to SR is yet to be determined. The reason I prefer Stevenson there is he has a big kick and the aerial presence that is so needed in today's game. And we've seen what he can do in open play from the back.

    And play him at fullback.

It's piss poor from Foster, Ryan and Schmidt if they haven't provided any feedback to Stevenson and others like him, who deserved to be selected in the All Blacks XV squad.

Do you think the AB selectors should be talking to every Super player etc? If they have decided he isn't good enough (I would have him) that they should ring and tell him? The only ones the AB selectors I would think would give feedback is to players they see as being a test player. I rember hearing Eddie Jones when he was coaching Wallabies saying exactly that, you can't talk to every player that thinks he is of test quality, more who you as coach thinks is teat quality. Mate I played for a lot of years and no AB coach, or even provincial coach ever rung me and gave me works ons, becaused I was no bloody good of course

Selby reckit has been signed on a two year deal, I feel we have incredible depth at lock but still lack a good ball carrying loosie with x factor

I can't see how McWhannell stays now, unless McMillan wants a thousand locks in his squad. I'll be fucked off if that happens as he has so much more upside than MSR.

The Chiefs are understood to have also been keen on moving Ah Kuoi to blindside flanker – a position he occupied throughout this year’s NPC with Bay of Plenty – so Selby-Rickit’s acquisition is certainly with the bigger picture in mind.

Yep I can understand McWhannel moving,(c'mon down to Canes), but kind of agree this is more about after WC when Lurch goes? Nothing like a couple of 2m+ locks in the squad.

@Dan54 Agree, there is some succession planning here. My question is how can they fit all of them into the squad unless the Chiefs sacrifice a loose forward or back. I guess we'll find out soon.

Could be a back. Last squad the back three was so unclear that they may take a gamble on thinking they are clearer this time.

Has McWhannel signed for the Chiefs yet? The Hurricanes have room for a lock with the departure of Scott Scrafton and he looks like a decent pick-up.

But that doesn't solve the problem of not having anyone else to play 7 apart from Cane. Moving Jacobson is not the answer (he should be the starting no.8), and Boshier is not a specialist openside either.

At the moment the Chiefs have:
6 ) Ah Kuoi, Jacobson, Finau, Sowakula, Boshier, Parker
    7 ) Cane, Jacobson, Boshier
8 ) Jacobson, Sowakula, Boshier, Parker

I am assuming that Parker is back. McMillan said he was fit and ready to go.

Given the Chiefs had so many 1st 5s this season they may select one less back. Ioane seems to be a redundant selection if they re-sign him.

He is one of a number of players who never had their original contract duration officially announced.
