but (and this links to the "current state of the game" thread)
A little over a week after a fantastic test filled with some seriously good play by both sides, especially the Aussies
And yet, the only thing anyone is talking about over here still, on social media especially, is fucking reffing. We're supposed to be talking about the next game, and the Australian coach is still talking about being robbed last week. And shit that should have been cited. And all the other ways the Wallabies were dudded by the game.
What might be the problem with the game is the media, and people. All we focus on is the ref, and shit that went against our team. And we seek out shit like that. And we comment on it.
Aussie fans should be talking about the continued rise of Valetini, Samu's best ever test, Foley's comeback. A young side never feeling beaten and fighting back a couple of times. but no. lets write another article on the ref. of the last game. -
@mariner4life Refs have a larger influence on the outcome of the game than anyone else so it's inevitable. Contrasted with, for example, AFL where they have a minimal influence.
Tell you what though, can't wait for the game to be sped up with this new crack down on time wasting. To be sped by - checks notes - awarding scrums...

@mariner4life I'm not even sooking. Any one player has nowhere the influence the ref does. That's why the ref is so often the subject of debate following a game.
Its impossible to get away from given the nature of the laws and the room for interpretation.
And no, I'm not gunna sook off and watch AFL because AFL is terrible.

Odd point. Are you saying that because the current penalty for time wasting is a scrum, that we just shouldn't bother enforcing the rule on time wasting?
As opposed to say, maybe - switches brain from whinge mode to solutions mode - changing the rule to award a scrum to awarding a free kick?

@mariner4life agree with you. Decades of negative press headed by Greg Growden and a fox sports is partly to blame IMHO.

Correct. Tom Decent is another in a long line of hacks when it comes to rugby journalism. The judiciary did not admit Newell should have been cited.
It was Swain's defence that Newell should also have been cited.

@NTA it's just not true. Rugby journalism round here definitely sucks. But it's the same anywhere - we see the Saffas or the French blowing up about refs just as often.
To blame it on a few hack journos is silly. They just pick up on the obvious talking points.

the ref didn't decide last Thursday. The Wallaby's inability to put Jordan on the deck decided last Thursday. You win by being in front at the final whistle. Not with a couple of minutes to go.

Foster mentioned it in his presser that he's a different ball carrier to Frizell and Barrett. The thing is he's actually pretty effective when he decides to go direct in terms of post-contact metres but prefers to use footwork in contact.I remember Kaino when he came on the scene was more of a wide runner but seemed to change his game in his mid-20's to what made him so successful.
I agree on Rieko, still only 25 and I think finally starting to iron out his inconsistencies after making the move to 13. One of the few things Foster has done well this year is to play him solely at 13.

Potential for being a triple threat for sure but before claiming that I want to see his short kicking ability and decision making. Also his short passing game under pressure.
Not knocking the guy as we have few triple threat options and most other don't even show that potential. Just not confirmed yet. -

Important test for Akira - needs to put down a marker to be the starting 6 because time (test matches) is running short for RWC.
I'd say the same for Taylor, Papali'i, Ofa, Nepo, Hoskins and RTS.
Any who play poorly might not get many shots at redemption.
