@Kiwiwomble I'm happy to ignore some stuff in order to enjoy a show, but I had already invested years into Sons of Anarchy and 1 season of Yellowstone made me think of that, on a ranch...I expect it'd be one of those shows I'd watch and enjoy enough to keep watching, but had enough stuff I really wanted to watch
-
@taniwharugby i think for me there is definitely a part where i just enjoy WHERE they live...makes me want to buy someone back in the south island...you know...when i win lotto
-
i will both a good go

Not sure that's strictly legal.
Like @taniwharugby I too expected to like Yellowstone as I'm a Costner fan, but I really couldn't suspend my disbelief enough for it while realising I don't really like Taylor Sheridan's stuff.
Funnily enough if @kruse had mentioned earlier that 1884 was different in style/tone than Yellowstone I may actually have given the first episode a watch, but my cheap Paramount subscription has now ended and I'm not going to renew it again (I watched one show in a year.)

So I’m giving Rings of Power a go and I’m no JRR fanboy so have no issue with lore, so it’s not that.
I’m most of the way through ep1 and I’m thinking this is expensive dogshit. Not much of a story so far, disjointed and with pretty much wooden acting. Please tell me it gets better quickly.

Nope. I'm watching cos it's ok, but the characters are totally unlikeable. I'm holding on for improvements.

The Terminal List
This is a script you'll recognise instantly - nothing new here and the twists are all obvious. The action sequences need work for believability but that's a common irritation when it comes to Hollywood. At this point I'm starting to come around to the notion cinematographers/ directors simply don't know how to portray space and action effectively.
But having said that, I found it an enjoyable watch and the fat guy from Parks and Rec does a very good job.
It should be a one season wonder,

I actually think it might be a multi season one as it appears to have done well.
TBH, I would be interested in how they do it with the main "storyline" completed.
Agree with you about the action sequences.

@Nepia so the Terminal part of the title, isnt accurate, or was it the List that wasnt?
Hmmm, I think the title is accurate if it's solely an outward facing list.

There's 4 more books already written in the source material, so...
so perhaps
##spoiler
the original mission wasn't necessary if old mate Reece lives with his tumour...

##endspoilerYeah, not much of a spoiler, but...
##spoiler
yeah, just maybe the tumour isn't so much of an issue as originally presented. I thought this was strongly hinted at, or outright said, at the end of Book 1 - but maybe for the TV show they didn't want to - in case it DID turn out to be a 1-season flop? Doesn't sound like any TV/Movie director/exec I've ever seen though - they love to "tease" the next one... if only to put pressure on the company to actually make it.

##endspoilerDidn't they:
##spoiler
Have a scene where the specialist said it was easily fixable via an op immediately? But Reece wanted to do his list ... so maybe it doesn't need to be done immediately after all and he gets it done between seasons.

##endspoilerI haven't seen the show yet, and my memory of the books is a little fuzzy - but I think something like that happens in book 2.
But from some comments others have made here about the show - it does sound like they've picked bits out of later books, so.... -
Bear - just have the last ep to go.
Fantastic scripting, acting, direction, filming etc. Interesting characters. I am enjoying it but in all of its search for authenticity every now and then it does something really jarring on the food front.
##spoiler
an example would be the pastry chef dude, after all of his dedication and study toward making a perfect donut gets a 'revelation' to use a yeasted dough rather than a cake one. WTF? Donuts are a yeasted dough. That's your start point.
##endspoilerI've never worked in a US kitchen or for a US chef but I think the obsession levels and toxic environments are actually realistic over there. The kitchen talk and constant 'yes chef' stuff is well overdone from my experience but I do understand that's how they have taken something and become over-serious with it.
I will disagree with the notion the he worked like that at Noma though. Noma is well known as a very quiet zen like kitchen and not a place of high stress
