Golden Retriever pup arriving in 8 days. First family dog. Voodoo clan very excited
I've looked after one, didn't think they are quite so greedy for food as labs but they do have this magical fur that sticks to car seats like glue. Oh and they can shed everywhere. Great dogs though.

@antipodean noticed your dog here the other day, gorgeous boy. He looks like he should be in kids movies, the stereotypical scamp with a patch over one eye.

I'm a bit nervous to juggle it all. The wife won't be much use, this is very much my pup to look after.
Start with making sure that all of your wife's shoes are out of reach / locked away. You will get the blame.
Actually all shoes and slippers in general.
Well all things that you don't want chewed. Books, bags that sort of thing.
O.K. Just empty the house to be safe.

Got a companion for the big fella. She's nine weeks old, full of energy and they've fast become firm friends. His patience with her is amazing.

Don't know but also probably used to being sent to the doghouse.

What is your small dog's breed?
Half Husky, half greyhound. But she looked like a dingo so were going to name her Azaria.

Lindy would be more subtle (and easier for commands).

We're in Oz, so subtlety doesn't work.

Shock collars. Anyone with experience of using them
I've got 2 Thai dogs
I used to take them out walking (or chasing my bike) every day. Early morning now as it's getting very hot.
There were 2 issues
The neighbour's dogs. 5 of the buggers who like protecting their road territory. My dogs like fighting back if need be. One often comes of 2nd best and is a scar face now.
Hens. They get it in their head to catch the hens every so often. It's fun for my dogs but they have now killed three of them. It's not the compensation costs (not much) but they just go wild. Good and following my orders until they decide to chase and kill hens.
The hens are my main concern. I'm thinking of buying 2 Shock Collars and giving them a small blast if they misbehave in this respect. The only other option is no walking / chasing bikes. I don't want to do this as one dog tends to get fat if she isn't exercising
I started off keeping them on a lead and still mostly do past the hens but the coming back is (sometimes) the difficult part (catching them). Most days they are fine
