So there is now the possibility of the warrant for the Mar-a-Lago search being unsealed, which could expose the witch hunt or show due process. I'm guessing that it won't matter much, one side will say one thing and one side will say another and good luck in convincing either differently.
For me it will hinge on whether Trump objects or not...
Good. This needs full transparency.
-
Just a few documents about nukes, apparently.
DoJ and Trump both say they want the warrant made public, so we should know soon enough. But since neither of them wants it kept secret, I guess it's not going to tell us much.
Presumably Trump could also release his property receipt if he wanted, as you say the more transparency the better

If cartoon this was about tits vs ass then it would have nailed the demographic shift and societal distancing of America.

Fight! Fight! Fight!!!
Okay, so it’s Round 175 at this point, but it’s still a fight and is she ever bitter. She still blames Bern for losing her coronation, and she’s jockeying for position now.

Just a flesh wound, reportedly, he’ll pull through it and I certainly hope he does. Good thing it wasn’t a handgun. Pretty sad security in NY, there’s been no moratorium on the fatwa and Rushie hasn’t stopped receiving death threats, so somebody was asleep.

The only farce is that there are substantial numbers of people gullible enough to believe shysters like Sean Davies and his conspiracy peddling website. The tweet you quote is so obviously total BS. "...literally any record Trump ever saw, read or created..." FFS, it's laughable.
What the warrant actually says they're after is:
"All physical documents and records constituting evidence, contraband, fruits of crime, or other items illegally possessed...including...any government and/or presidential record...". Plus some stuff about national security communications and classified material. So what they're allowed to look for is illegally obtained government documents and communications. Fair enough. What this warrant doesn't tell us is why they are after them, but that was never going to be in there. Presumably the FBI has evidence which the judge agreed was enough to grant the warrant. We don't get to see that, so the debate rages on.

I see Salman Rushdie has been stabbed (in the neck, but not confirmed) as he was about to give a speech in NY.
Sad day for free speech in the land of the (supposedly) free.
Geezuuz, looks like he could lose an eye.

Don’t have to take his word for it. It’s right there in writing.
I'm not taking his word for it, because I read the warrant, and his tweet is unquestionably absolute bullshit. I know cognitive dissonance can be a powerful thing, but it has its limits. This Sean Davis guy seems to be smart enough that he can't actually believe what he's writing, but he knows that there are many gullible and / or dim people who will.
You posted the link to the warrant - did you actually read it? Because if you really think that the warrant says that they can seize any document that Trump saw while president then please point me to those words.
Witch hunt.
Yawn

You seem to be taking a huge issue with Sean Davis, as-if he’s been more wrong about important matters on, ooooh, say, Crossfire Hurricane, the Steele Dossier, and other classic “walls closing in” bombshells from the rest of the news media the past five years, and maybe we should persecute him too, huh?. Never heard the story about the boy who cried wolf? Whay’s that? Sorry, I was too busy yawning.
The warrant says precisely what it says, that they can collect EVERYTHING related to the presidency from those four years in office, including handwritten notes.
Most persecuted leader of our lifetime will only make him the most memorable. They’ll be talking about this WITCH HUNT — which is EXACTLY what it is — for decades after we’ve all passed on.
BlueAnon was screaming for Trump to release the search warrant if he had nothing to fear. He did, called their bluff. Now they’re extra disatisfied, demanding the affadavit which he can’t do.
Nobody but the most gullible — please stop the projection, the people trashing Davis for a message are the same people who were masturbating to the Steele Dossier — nobody but the Most Gullible trusts this demonstrably corrupt FBI and DOJ, and they are doing significantly more damage trashing the Constitution and dividing The People than ANYTHING the Orange Bad Man ever tweeted to make the Ruling Class clutch their pearls.
Long-term TDS is a helluva disease, possibly incurable.

You seem to be taking a huge issue with Sean Davis,
The only reason we're talking about Sean Davis is that you posted a tweet that was a transparent lie as though it was valid commentary. I called you on the bullshit but you doubled down on it, claiming the warrant says they can take anything they want. I'm starting to suspect you haven't actually read it, because it clearly says they are searching for illegally held government documents.
as-if he’s been more wrong about important matters on, ooooh, say, Crossfire Hurricane, the Steele Dossier, and other classic “walls closing in” bombshells from the rest of the news media the past five years, and maybe we should persecute him too, huh?.
Perhaps he did say something that was true about something else once. That doesn't make this particular bullshit any truer though. (Sidebar: calling bullshit when someone deliberately lies is a cute notion of persecution).
Never heard the story about the boy who cried wolf? Whay’s that? Sorry, I was too busy yawning.
The one where in the end it turns out that the wolf was real after all? You really need better analogies.
The warrant says precisely what it says, that they can collect EVERYTHING related to the presidency from those four years in office, including handwritten notes.
The warrant says what it says, and Davis' tweet says whatever shite he thinks his followers are gullible enough to swallow (and repeat), and never the twain shall meet.
Most persecuted leader of our lifetime will only make him the most memorable. They’ll be talking about this WITCH HUNT — which is EXACTLY what it is — for decades after we’ve all passed on.
And Al Capone was the most persecuted businessman of the 1920s. Sometimes things happen for a reason.
I do agree with you that Trump will be remembered long after we're gone. Although when you think of the most memorable leaders of the last century, I'm not sure that's the kind of company you'd want to be associated with.
BlueAnon was screaming for Trump to release the search warrant if he had nothing to fear. He did, called their bluff. Now they’re extra disatisfied, demanding the affadavit which he can’t do.
I know, it's as absurd as demanding to see a Hawaiian birth certificate and then when you get it demanding a long form version
Nobody but the most gullible — please stop the projection, the people trashing Davis for a message are the same people who were masturbating to the Steele Dossier
I'm trashing Davis for being a lying scrote because he's lying about the warrant. I don't know what he said about the Steele Dossier and I don't care, it just doesn't turn me on I'm afraid.
— nobody but the Most Gullible trusts this demonstrably corrupt FBI and DOJ, and they are doing significantly more damage trashing the Constitution and dividing The People than ANYTHING the Orange Bad Man ever tweeted to make the Ruling Class clutch their pearls.

Good to see that the politics threads around Mr Trump still focus on the sideshows and not the crux.
I actually dipped in here to say that of all the legal problems Trump and family face this may be the big downfall.
Intentions of investigators doesn’t even matter, nor does hypocrisy (lock her up).
What matters here are the facts that Trump (presumably through arrogance and entitlement) decided that TS government docs were his to keep and store in an unsecured and unauthorised place.
The rules around these docs are very clear and they cannot be declassified in bulk with a wave of the hand from an outgoing POTUS.
Pleading ignorance may have been a saving grace but Mr Trump is never wrong so where this ends up is anyone’s guess.
I suspect he will be fighting this until the day he dies. -
@Crucial I just follow the legal stuff but under 18 U.S.C. § 793(e) Willful Retention of National Defense Information - whether he has declassified documents or not is simply irrelevant, as is noted in the affidavit. It's also very clear formal security processes on declassification must be followed and some documents - anything compartmentalised (SCI/F) and/or intelligence-related (SIGINT and HUMINT etc) can't be declassified by the POTUS
Plus they are looking at (§ 1519 & § 2071) improper removal and storage of classified information, and obstruction i.e. the unlawful concealment or removal of government records
I think this just the start, he and Kash Patel, his ex-Security Advisor (Pentagon-embedded) and current custodian of records with NARA don't seem to have a legal leg to stand on. What the hell were they scheming, keeping this kind of classified stuff?
(lots of misinformation out there, but Twitter: @emptywheel and emptywheel.net are fr*cken amazing on cutting through it all)
-
@Mario
I hope Trump doesn't run because I prefer DeSantis (so some kind of indictment before Presidential campaigns would be a blessing) , but be aware Empty Wheel pushed the Russian collusion story for years with all sorts of massively detailed articles and it turned out to be bullshit.A casual look at the headlines on her website plainly shows she is partisan.
That all being said, I wouldn't be surprised that Trump has fucked something up with his cavalier attitude.
-
@Frank US politics is a mystery to me, but tbh so is UK politics these days
I got interested as I follow some senior US ex-military and ex-intel types on Ukraine who made very clear the rules and processes and declassification and storage requirements on classified documents ... Trump can't 'magically' declassify, and Kash Patel lacks clearance now, so is likely implicated if he's accessed them
