@Chris while I think our defence is the biggest issue, I think even small tweaks to the way our pack plays going forward will help no end.

I guess the other thing is, it shouldnt be too hard with at least 3 Crusaders forwards likely to start to get them onto the same page Ryan is on.

I'd just like to see somethign different from us passing and banging into thier defence phase after phase, then drop it and they break our line with ease...stick to the basics with pick and goes from ST, Akira, SB, Bower then Cane, SW & the other prop to do more cleaning, and Ardie to score the tries....

Bower now is the senior prop with 9 test starts.

Well, he played like a senior prop in the Irish series. Probably our only ray of sunshine.

Yep we need that direct approach against the Boks.

@Chris well I'm an optimist, so I reckon we will see some improvement in our play.

The addition of Ryan, focus and being away from the antsi NZ public!

I have confidence Ryan will make a difference to the pack, not sure how much due to the small amount on time he has had.
Not sure about the defense and Tactics in attack that maybe our down fall

I like hearing about how he was simplifying things. Clarifying things should help a lot.

One of his strengths I think back to basics and do them at the highest level you can,
One of Ryan’s catch phrases at the Crusaders was
    “Get better or get beaten.”

Strong team. That tight five is formidable. Great to see a PSDT back too. World class. Strong centre partnership.

Interesting that Faf is back. He's played well against the ABs, and Smith in particular. He's there to niggle and disrupt. Does it also mean the box kicking game is back? His form has been hit and miss over the last 12 months though.

I think the Boks lose a bit of control with Willemse at 15 rather the Le Roux. Willemse is capable of moments of brilliance, but he can be got at. Le Roux's ability to be 2nd play maker and his tactical kicking are missed when he doesn't play.

Back 3 have not played much together at all. It will be an area the ABs will seek to put pressure on.

6-2 bench split tells you where the Boks see this game being won or lost. Fresh front row, 2 locks (Mostert can play 7) and an openside flanker. Neither of the young no 8s made the cut. This will be attritional.

It isn't side built for chasing a game. It is a side set up to strangle the opposition into unconsciousness.

Not sure our kicking game is upto it, not to mention our defence when they run it back, Ireland made good gains off our poor kicks.

    Hmmm...

    Springbok team:
15 Damian Willemse, 14 Kurt-Lee Arendse, 13 Lukhanyo Am, 12 Damian de Allende, 11 Makazole Mapimpi, 10 Handre Pollard, 9 Faf de Klerk, 8 Jasper Wiese, 7 Pieter-Step du Toit, 6 Siya Kolisi (captain), 5 Lood de Jager, 4 Eben Etzebeth, 3 Frans Malherbe, 2 Malcolm Marx, 1 Trevor Nyakane

Substitutes: 16 Bongi Mbonambi, 17 Steven Kitshoff, 18 Vincent Koch, 19 Salmaan Moerat, 20 Franco Mostert, 21 Kwagga Smith, 22 Jaden Hendrikse, 23 Willie le Roux

The Bok team is ok, but I am not super thrilled. Here are my main areas of doubt:

    a. Trevor Nyakane: I love this guy. His passion and his mobility are great assets, but is he one of 2 of our best loosehead props? When it comes to scrum time, I don't think so. Hope he makes me eat my words though!!

    b. Salmaan Moerat: has potential to develop but not yet our 3rd best lock ... surely?! And I get the thing about gaining experience etc. but this is the All Blacks we are facing FFS.

    c. Jasper Wiese: OMG where do I start. Nienaber describes him as a longterm project. Bloody hell, he has 13 caps under the belt already. How many more times do we need to see how limited he is, especially in SA conditions before we abandon the "project"? Surely, if you want a long term project, someone who already knows how to catch, pass, run into space would be a better place to start?

@Daffy-Jaffy He is a Paarl boy. Jake White use him in 15 , so should be OK. One of a 100 7 specialists coming through our rugby.

@Billy-Webb What do you make of Marx starting? No argument he’s good enough, but disrupts the very established bomb squad front row, and also dilutes the dual turnover threat with Kwagga.

Based on the Bok team I’d be inclined to start a Chiefs front row, with a Saders one to finish.

Interesting point. It breaks from the norm and is being done to celebrate Marx's milestone (50th test).
Mbonambi is a stronger player in the tight and Marx more devastating in the loose - in my view. Which is why they normally start the other way around.
I guess on the flip side, it means that the bomb-squad front row is likely to be a more powerful scrumming unit... But if the game is fast and loose in the latter part, it may come back to bite us.

    Straw man team.

    Ross/Sami T/Ofa/Scooter/Big Sam/Vaa'i/Cane/Sotutu/Nugget/BB/Havili/Goodhue/Rieko/Jordan/Jordie.

    Bench:

    Bower/Taylor/Nepo/Ardie/Akira/Christie/Mo'unga/Reece

Frizzle will be at 6. That’s the whole point of his selection. They have set themselves on wanting a player like that hence the earlier selection of SB there.

I think this is one to play a lock/utility at 6, which means Vaa'i.
