Commonwealth Games (2022) - all sports, except Sevens

So, eventually negotiated my way through 7+ and found replays of Corbin Strong, Bryony Botha and Ellesse Andrew's.
Glad did. Awesome watches.
Cycling is such a strange sport ...
I found the scratch race difficult to follow. They should have a graphic of the leaderboard during the race.
Can I say that Sky's scheduling has been a little bit shit? I tried to save some highlights packages early this morning only to find something else on. Makes me long for on demand Spark service. At least I get to see what I want to see

Seeing as if we're in whinge mode...
The 7+ app has Pommie commentators (though admittedly Aussie chicks colour comes, one of which seems to be Anna Mears, who despite myself I respect massively
) so the cycling commentary I've followed is all about how Team GB can possibly win gold ... or maybe Scotland... or perhaps Wales ....I'm assuming this is the generic, "World Feed " commentary,so would expect to them to be impartial.
But it seems not ...
-
@booboo We are getting the same cycling commentators as you. It appears to be an English guy, a Scottish woman and the Aussie woman (Rochelle IIRC?).
Anyway, Ellesse Andrews and Aaron Gate win their 3rd gold medals. And Andrew Jeffcoat wins gold in the men's 50m backstroke final.

Good to see we are winning a few swimming golds. Usually the aussies snaffle them all

@canefan 13 Gold still on course to beat our previous best whether that be 17 or 22 according to event inflation. Hopefully hold 3rd, England appear to have won a big haul. It is showing that New Zealand is a pretty well rounded sporting nation.

Not sure if it is 'World Feed'
BBC has Chris Hoy leading the cycling but 7 has Phil Liggett -

The cyclists have kicked ass this time. Lots of youngsters in there too so hope for the future and Paris in 2 years

I don't want to be negative but with CG you can find that some countries place more emphasis in their long term programs than others.
I hope this isn't the case but it wouldn't surprise me if say, Australia, had a longer term target in the cycling such as the next Olympics and this is just a tester along the way.
NZ seem to have really targeted success here and are reaping the rewards. -
@Crucial A number of sports where we are traditionally very strong like rowing, kayaking and various sailing events are not in the Commonwealth Games. Given that Australia are incredibly strong at swimming and probably close to the top nation in the Olympics, New Zealand have done really well in the pool. I think New Zealand is becoming a more well rounded sporting nation, if you look at our performances in Tokyo, the Winter Olympics and now the Commonwealth games.

@canefan Would have been cool to have Rugby League 9s, since League is almost a Commonwealth sport.
NSW, QLD, Norf Inglerlund, and bits of Auckland and Wellington?
-
I haven't watched a single event of this yet.

I don’t disagree. Just saying that cycling places a huge emphasis on Worlds and Olympics and it wouldn’t surprise me if Oz (despite wanting medals) have a program targeting those while picking up what they can along the way.

@antipodean 9s aren't really a sport as such it is kind of a version of rugby 7s. You could include the island nations, PNG, England, Scotland, Wales, Northern Island possibly Sri Lanka, Singapore, Malaysia. Would be a viable event, may have featured in past games, if not there would be a strong case for it as an event in the future.

Sir Chris Hoy was commenting that NZ have been really smart with recruiting new coaches from Oz and GB and that, combined with the improved infrastructure and a good pool of current athletes is starting to realise the results we see. He said a lot of it is about freshening up at the end of each Olympic cycle; NZ has done really well at this.

I know 17 is for 1990, but when was the 22?
