@Chris Tamaiti Williams is a beast, I know they say props get better as the get older, but I thought he has handled every task bloody well so far. Looked good for the Maori too

Around 140 Kg he is a big unit,I agree he did play well for the Māori didn’t look out of place stepping up.

You can count the games Moli has played for Ta$man and the Chiefs in the last 2 years on one hand. He had a couple of games off the bench for the Chiefs but looked well off the pace. He needs to perform in the NPC first, and be fit to play.

@pakman Mafileo had a back injury so missed half of the SR season.

Is Laulala available for this test? I fear for what the Boks would do to Lomax.

    @Chris Yikes!

So it's Lomax starting with Newell on the bench? This ain't looking good.

No criticism of Newell, but not a great game for a debut.

@Chris Not available until game two? I might have imagined that though!

Yes, Ta'avao won't be able to play in the first game.

This is from the judicial decision about Ta'avao's red card.
If Angus has completed the Coaching Intervention Programme, doesn't that mean he will be available for the first SA test?

You also have to factor in his concussion stand-down. Was Ta'avao available to play against HB? The team leaves on Friday, before the Auckland-CM game don't they?

@Bovidae That was also considered in the decision.

@Stargazer So if Ta'avao was fit to play HB then he will have served his 2 games. He was unlikely to have played in that game though before his suspension. 🙂

@Bovidae Yep, that's why I posted above that he may be available for the first test in SA, if he has completed the Coaching Intervention Programme.

    Makes sense.

If Ta'avao wasn't available then they would likely have brought in another tighthead?

@KiwiMurph Greg Dyer maybe been the next best this season, but based on not much evidence.

I wonder if Jason Ryan had any input into Newell being called up.

Who was the TH option if not Newell?

    Jaeger?

Thats the only other one I could think of who would have been considered.

Kinda serious question... who are the other THs in Super Rugby?

    Marcel Reneta
    Sione Mafileo,
    Atunaisa Moli
    Tevita Mafileo,
    Alex Fidow,
    Oli Jager,
    Tamaiti Williams
    Jermaine Ainsley
    Jeff Thwaites
    Saula Ma’u
