Waikato bt 'Poo as expected but the score wasn't a blow out.
I watched the game on and off. Waikato started well but made a lot of handling errors, forced passes and had a misfiring lineout. Manawatu led 18-5 at HT. Waikato was much more direct in the 2nd half and used their big props to rumble over. The commentators said Wayne Smith was there and gave two-try scorer Awhina Tangen-Wainohu a pat on the back when she left the field late. She could be a bolter for the BFs. The Poo are a good team.

Another Hawke's Bay product that got away.

Canterbury take out the big game of the weekend despite a very good second half from Auckland.
Auckland a good chance to take it towards the end but got monstered in an attacking scrum and lost the chance.
I find that often the scrum depth isn’t great in many teams and there’s a big risk of things going badly when the reserves come on. Coaches need to be smarter with their scrum/reserve management. Canterbury manage theirs well. -
Watching HB v Otago now and the standard around tackling is obviously lower than the Premiership. Otago looking like a very different side than last year by being back at this level.
They have a very sharp halfback that the Cantab poachers will be eyeing up.
