i guess my original comment was more aimed at these senior players how have taken ownership for the legacy of the AB's, and i think there is a middle ground between rugby tragic that can list all kinds of stats and just being a fan of the game

@Kiwiwomble legacy is a pretty broad thing, so I wouldn’t expect players to know or contain information about everything to do with Ireland v All Blacks history.

This may not be a popular position and I don’t want to get all sports psychology, but what purpose does knowing a stat like “Ireland have never won in NZ” actually serve for an AB player heading into a match? In my view it’s not actually a positive message and it’s context has very little connection with many of the players - some who have never played Ireland in NZ before.

Will it provide positive motivation, each player will have different personal motivations and it may serve some purpose for one or two of the older players, but I’d imagine that if this was shared with the team and was given some sort of credence then it could actually have a negative impact on some players.

It makes good cannon fodder for fans and commentators to throw out there and wax lyrical about!

@ACT-Crusader one of the first Adidas advertising campaign for the ABs was around the legacy:

The Legacy you face is more intimidating than any opposition.

Apologies if its already been discussed , was listening to a bit of SENZ while driving ,

And they were saying , big rumors Joe is officially going to be made part of the coaching group and will have an official role such as defense or similar , perhaps at someones expense .

    Tactics, defence, selections please.

sometime i feel a lot of these players wouldn;t even watch rugby if they weren't getting payed to play

That is absolutely nothing new though. A few pros I've known often were largely uninterested in anything rugby in their spare time. And I'm thinking back as far as twenty odd years.

Yeah I’ve heard of pro tennis players, basketballers, Aussie rules players that don’t just sit around and watch the sport they play or follow stats etc, other than the stuff they have to review as part of their match prep.

Jonah didn’t even know who Pinetree was before he became an All Black.

    Not exactly true.

    This is from Jonah's book.

    Something needs to happen.

I can’t remember the exact losses under the original cartel that sparked it (maybe back to back losses against the Boks and Wallabies) and the Fern were all what does Hansen do. Out of it came “FGH” if my memory serves correct.

There was a shake up of responsibilities and from my perspective there was a shift away from some of the issues we were having at the time and a reset of sorts.

@taniwharugby no doubt the All Blacks - Adidas deal was massive in terms of marketability and branding. IMO it bought us out of the dark ages of the triple C and put us on the global stage up there with massive sporting clubs that also wore the three stripes.

No doubt over that time there have been other big brands that have tried, by Adidas has remained strong looking from the outside in.

@ACT-Crusader yeah again, IIRC Adidas renegotiated an early, new contract in 2010 or early 2011 (just before the RWC and the furore about jersey cost when people bought them outside NZ) for 10 years, meaning the signed on again in the last year or 2 again, but don't recall much about it, given we have had Ineos, Altrad and a couple other ones come on too (Beats and Tudor?)

It's an improvement, but in the larger scheme of things might give NZRFU an excuse to say they did something. I am really glass half empty right now.

Hart v Grizz vibes doing that. Who’s in charge?

Joe would be pretty handy in most areas, (apart from attack) but haven't seen or heard anything else. Thought he packed in International to spend more time with his boy who's not too healthy or something?

Big difference is Schmidt was asked to join by the head coach. Initially he turned it down and this year changed his mind

The current assistant coaches may not be too happy. Speaking of which, I enjoyed this photo from the build up to the first Test:

Adidas is about 9 mill a year isn't it? Not sure I think Altrad is more and Ineos about 7 mill for shorts. Also think Adidas have to approve other sponsors on jersey at least.

Probably similar to Mains then: 1992-1995

67.6% without removing the teams outside the top 10

If you do 1992-1994 (a year out from the RWC like this coaching group is) Mains percentage was 59.1% (without removing those teams outside the top 10)
