England to whitewash Australia
-

The late penalty decision I can quite understand. A quick three points and then 2-3 minutes to try and get the next score. High risk but probably the only way to win the game. Taking the line out option, even if successful meant a draw with no real time left for another play. If it had paid off it would have been hailed as a genius move.

Who'd have thought it, Aussie getting grief for trying to win the game. :o
-

Usually quite minor and annoying more than anything but then I saw a transcript of the Steve Hollies interview with Jones. I mean, what the actual fuck?
From the Daily Telegraph:-

“And the lads were pumped up, there was a bit of moisture out there and I think you and Glen (Ella) had a good moment, looked lubed up and a fair bit of shrinkage.
Seriously?

Maybe Hollies was idly thinking about a personal fantasy, and didn't realise he'd actually spoken aloud?

It can happen, past players struggling with boundaries. Like Grey, still apparently thinking he was able to compete for the opposition's ball. I guess we should be grateful he didn't launch a flying elbow at Brown's head (although based on Brown's performances of late, that might not have been the worst outcome. I doubt Eddie will drop Brown in favour of Nowell or Watson, but if not, Brown needs to pull his socks up) -

Thats pretty sad. The ARU has a pretty done some pathetic stuff to promote the game in the past and the press have carried on in much the same vein.

Its a bit weird to see Eddie complaining about it.
-

He's obviously not happy - given his "tripple mate" response to the Q from Hollies:

[Caught off guard, Jones said: “Sorry? Repeat the question mate, I don’t like the tone of the question mate ... are we not allowed to enjoy a win mate?â€]

I'm no expert on Aussie mating rituals, but I'd have thought one more would havebeen fisticuffs. :knuppel:

Slightly more seriously, I'm not surprised he brought it up. it's such a dumb question it deserves ridicule and Jones will not pass up an opportunity to rile the opposition in any way. I'm sure it will backfire at some point but so far it seems to be working.
-
Like the "pal" content of a sentence uttered in a glaswegian pub. More than one "pal" per sentence and it's time to leave.

Aussie Wallabies ads are the fucking worst. England shouldn't take it personally, they're all rubbish

In order to win the game, they had to score a try though. Given how strong they had looked with the ball in hand, they should have backed themselves in being able to do it from 20 out in my view. If they can't do it from 20 out, they are even less likely to do it from 90 out, so effectively all they did for me hand themselves a loss by less points, when a draw was realistically on the table.
-

Yeah I see that. What I'm trying to say though is that by going for the try they are effectively saying we'll settle for the draw. By taking the kick and then backing themselves for a (less likely) try they are saying we're going for the win.

The only thing that makes either option correct is in succeeding in your aim. I found their aim to be laudable. That it was the more risky option and that it backfired on them doesn't IMO make the aim any less laudable. As an England fan I would have been gutted to have to settle for a draw so late in the game but to have lost the game in that manner would have been devastating. I reckon if that had have happened you wouldn't now be able to lay money on Aus taking it 3-0.
-

Whilst on the topic of things that miss the mark, I personally found all of the official RFU "#carrythemhome" bollocks a load of, well, bollocks. Particularly when "#carrythemout" was the end result. I'm a bit disappointed that Twickenham hasn't yet been ritually purged of all those slogans dubbed on every available surface.

Then again, maybe it would require a Lancaster mentality to make that a post RWC priority and fortunately Jones seems to focus on the more essential stuff -
