Tauranga desparately trying to attack, but thus far Napier is defending well. Still in Tauranga's half. Tauranga knock on. All players look tired. It's been a good game to watch (with one eye). Napier's 2nd half was excellent. The first had too many handling errors.

I briefly thought Hastings game was over, but for some reason they've moved to the next field. Can't see any lines on the field.

It's full time! A great, well-deserved win to Hastings. Apart from the beginning of the game, they were the dominant side and never looked like giving up their lead.

As ever, cheers for the updates - unfortunately due to my current work situation I was unable to watch the game (will likely post in the Happiness Thread over the weekend to vent about this) so was awesome to be able to follow in the thread. Obviously the result helped too. And a begrudgingly good on Napier too.

@Nepia It was a mistake ridden affair that Napier did not do themselves much good, especially in the first half. It was obvious that Napier had the better personnel but had what looked like a rearranged forward pack and a backline that looked different from what I remember from when they played Wellington College. An early injury to one of the backs (tgh4e Number 12 2nd five who might even be the vice captain) saw the starting halfback go to out to centre, the starting first five into halfback.
Tauranga lived off Napier mistakes but did have the slight territorial advantage in the first half (they were playing to the end where I was standing behind the goal posts) but neither side really looked in the slightest bit threatening, except for the intercept where it was a certain try to the Tauranga right winger who somehow got cut down by the cover defence on the five metre line. Tauranga could also have taken about three gimme penalties from right in front but elected to kick for touch. A stranger call considering how poor both team's lineouts were.
Napier upped the paced in the second half and their captain who was in the number 7 jersey today handled the ball more in the first five minutes than he did in the entire first half.. The more ball movement seemd to tire the visiting team and it was only as matter of time before that turned into points. Tauranga did defend and tackle well but their task was made easier thanks to a number of wayward Napier passes that missed the man.The first try was a good lineout drive whislt the second was a beautiful move where from a almost midfield scrum the Napier left winger (wearing No. 14 - but might have been 15from memory) stood deep behind the scrum and the halfback picked up the ball and made a few metres to his left before passing to the try scorer who was at full pace and he set eyes on the corner flag and got there. Napier had a man sitting wide on the sideline and the Tauranga defender was out there guarding him leaving about thirty metres of space to play with. The sidelikne conversion helped.
The last try was a forward rumble with the number three powering over close to where I was standing and that was it Napier 17 - 10 Tauranga. Not a game that will live in anyones memory.The number 17 replacement prop for Napier pulled off a nice step to beat a couple of players then barged his was through a couple of other tacklers next time he had his hands on the ball (that sort of used up most of his wind and he was not so prominent thereafter) and the Tauranga blindside in No 6 went OK in my eyes but did get binned for the pulling down of a maul that should really have been a penalty try.
Lots of injuries on both sides resulting in players swapping positions including the Tauranga left winger finishing the game at No. 8. Napier got demolished big time in one scrum that saw the number 17 mentioned above immediately come on and they returned the favour in the very next scrum resulting in the Tauranga prop getting replaced.That's it from me for now as I'm off to go watch Taradale play NOBM with my brother who has surprised us all with his arrival from Sydney on Thursday night.

Both our schools having to defend a lot, with both Rotorua and Hamilton having most of the possession.
Napier get a line-out and go for the driving maul, but it goes backward. They keep possession, but haven't gained any territory.
In the other game, Rotorua concede a penalty and Hastings Boys go for the line-out.

Hastings hot on attack no, but Josh Leach is held up. The maul is still moving in Rotorua's direction. Then it goes down near the try line and Rotorua get the penalty.

Hastings regain possesion and are attacking again.Another Napier line-out on Hamilton's 5m. The driving maul goes backward and sideways, but one of Napier's players goes for a run and he scores! Great try. Commentator thinks it may be Napier's no. 8 who scored.
