You can conclusively see that nothing can be between the ball and the ground. Or not if you're so shit a ref you get sacked back to first grade.

Nope not how it works, they have to see it touch to overturn a no try call by the ref. You can say the rules are wrong but that was the procedure followed correctly, all cos ref was on wrong side.
