Tranzit Coachlines Rugby 1st XV Festival (Hurricanes region top schools)
Round 1- Wellington College 24 - 33 Gisborne BHS
- Scots College 21 - 47 Palmerston North BHS
- St Pat's Wgtn 5 - 43 Napier BHS
- St Pat's Silverstream 0 - 24 Hastings BHS
In 6 years time there will be more players from the losing teams in the Canes than from the winning teams.
-
@Nepia The second round of the Tranzit Series is in Napier this Saturday. I hope to get along to watch NBHS take on Wellington College, despite promising to be at another nearby park to watch an Under 21 game at the same time. College have a first five that is getting big wraps at the moment by the name of Stanley Soloman (comes out of my Axemen Club). He is the son of former Black Fern and current Wellington Centurions President Erin Rush (who was my mother's mailman for a period a long time ago!!!!). Hopefully will run into her and Solly on the sideline.

@Higgins theres a few 1st 5s in Wellington showing out at the moment. Rongotai have a good year 13 at 10. Bernards have a league kid playing 1st 5 who goes well. Scots bought a kid in from up north or Aussie i hear. Mana college might have the best of the bunch, the young kid with the step and crisp pass. Pats have a good left footer running the cutter. So many options

Can I remind you that three of the schools you mentioned were on the receiving end of what must have been disappointing scorelines in the Tranzit Series for those concerned. Imagine what those might have been like had it not been for the first fives you mentioned! Could it be that there is another JGB out there lurking awaiting their Hurricanes contract? Still it was only preseason as they say.......................................
-
@Higgins I doubt the teams see this as preseason, considering this is basically the main opportunity to get seen by the Hurricanse U18 selecters playing against each other. The only other games are those for the Hurricanes Cup after the Super 8 and Wellington Premiership have finished. And that impacts on who gets picked for NZ Schools camp. Although, now they have regional scouts, it will be interesting to see whether that's going to make a difference to selections.
-
@Stargazer I know they are full on games but I was only using the pre season analogy as a way of softening the blow for the pounding the Wellington teams got!!!!!! Naturally I am overjoyed at those results the HB sides keep inflicting on schools from that region.

Highlights of one of those games

@Higgins Some great individual actions by that Wellington College 10 that you mentioned; he looks good in that clip posted by @Duluth! He makes Wellington College's attack look good, but their defence seems very leaky. Overall, GBHS looking stronger, some big boys easily breaking through Wellington College's defence, but some of their tackles made me cringe, especially the one where the Wellington player scores in the corner.
This weekend's games will be interesting. If I can find the time, I may still watch last weekend's games that didn't involve HB schools.
