Force v Blues

@KiwiMurph They're always a tough side to put away. They were the same last year as well and always fight hard despite their limited player pool, and yes, even more impressive with covid through their squad the week before.
-
Some tackling stats from the game. Blues made 237 tackles, the Force 111.
Blues top tacklers -
Papalii 29, Segner 24, RTS, Darry and Renata 14 (in his 23 minutes played), Tucker made 9 in his 10 mins played. -

@Nepia Yeah we're certainly getting challenged and having to show our resolve in a lot of these games.
Would like to see us to start playing our best side with 4 games left before the finals. Need to start building combos that'll take us forward, no need to be playing Segner at 8, changing the midfield every week etc.
Take the win and move on.
Possibly to do with the protocols around ABs and playing minutes?

The Blues should have run away with this but that defence was epic. Good defence practice for the later games in the comp.
How does Riccitelli have a super contract?
Because Beauden needs a golfing buddy in Auckland.

@Canes4life Seems that way on social media.

@Crucial True, but even so, I'd rather see us go with Akira at 8 and Plumtree at 6. Segner is a 7 and only a 7.
Akira was only ever going to play half an hour at most. This was juggling resources.
Just odd to be making demands of selections when you aren't party to player management needs. -

Plumtree looked good at 8 in the preseason. Shame we haven’t seen that when Sotutu doesn’t play.
I suspect he’s missing out because he’s off contract next year and is likely leaving

@Crucial Akira played most of the game though.....
Did you watch the game?
Watched about the first twenty and it looks like it was a good option to go to bed.
I was going by this report which sounds as if it was wrong (or badly written)
"Ioane put in a solid shift at No 6, before departing in the 26th minute with a try and 22 metres on 7 carries to his name; "

Segner's future isn't at 7.
He's still just a kid - but, needs to add a few kgs and he'll be Kieran Read dimensions.

@Chris-B Really? If I'm wrong then so be it, ill put my hand up, but I don't see how he could be anything other than a 7 from what I've seen.
Good player but too short to ever be a long term 6 or 8.
Also needs to improve his ball carrying.

Yep I like the kid at 7 too AM, by geez I keep saying how much I like the kid, he never stops, tackles and back on feet looking to see next job etc , a lot to like, and I reckon very handy 7, although he not bad at 8.

That was bullshit. They drop it, Angus dreams up a penalty.
To be fair to Gardner the touchies are often calling the offsides and I'm pretty sure he got the call for that one. He also made a good call with Eklund which the TMO was wanting a penalty.

The Blues in that second half were painful to watch. Talk about giving away possession and fuck me that has to be one of the worst performances of a reserved hooker ever. Literally couldn't throw it in and gets pinged for a high shot.
They were lucky not to lose with all the fuck ups they made.
In saying that the scrum was dominant and I would be happy for Hodge and Ofa to start for ABs.
The engine in that pack was Luke Romano who has to be the transfer of the year, his workrate was unreal. Akira played well but looked like a few meat pies heavier than last year.
I thought Segner played well, he kept the ball at the base well, tackled well.
Overall just too many errors, penalties and turnovers. -

Wiki says he 1.92? I think that is taller than current test 6 Ethan Blackadder and taller than 40+ test player Messam. So not sure if he really is too short.
