NZ Club Rugby 2022 ( General)

Onewhero are just running an U85s this year. The U85 side has a lot of local boys compared to what the premier side had.
-
I have heard whispers that there could be a covid19 related default in Wellington premier rugbys Swindale Shield tomorrow. Hopefully this is not a start of things to come. Take care of yourselves and get well soon guys if it proves to be true.

Disappointing to see both Otahuhu and University conceding their games by default in Auckland rugby in this weeks opening games of their pre-season tournament.
-
@higgins they have had plenty of games in last couple of weeks maybe they were travelling

Waikato Premiership club rugby starts this weekend. Looking at the team lists there are a few of the Chiefs WTG players involved.
HOB - Cobb
Hautapu - Burr, M Jacobson
Varsity - BrownTA Sports seem to have picked up at lot of the Hamilton BHS school leavers like Sean Ralph, Taha Kemara and Austin Anderson, as well as Malachi Wrampling-Alec (all named in the 2021 NZ Schools team). Latrell Smiler-Ah Kiong is at fullback.
Varsity has some of the young BOP players (Josh Bartlett, Nikora Broughten and Veveni Lasaqa) involved. -

Interesting to see that Kahn Fotuali'i is playing club rugby in Manawatū again (at 10 for Freyberg Old Boys).

Here is the draw for week 2 of the Waikato Draught Premiership:
Fraser Tech v Otorohanga - Waikato Steel Fabricators Park (Ron Crawford Memorial Trophy)
Hamilton Marist v Hamilton Old Boys - Marist Park
Morrinsville Sports v United Matamata Sports - Campbell Park
Te Awamutu Sports v Hautapu - Albert Park
University v Melville - Waikato University
Jack Lam is playing for Marist. Adam Thomson on the bench for HOB.
@gt12 Here's your TA team.
-
Shore vs. Silverdale should be a good game.
-
The other funny thing about the TA Sports vs Hautapu game is the coaches. Jackson Willison is one of the TA coaches, and he played all of his club rugby for Hautapu. Similarly, Jono Armstrong is one of the Hautapu coaches, and he was a TA stalwart, who IIRC, only moved to Hautapu at the very end of his career.

@Bovidae I noticed that Adam Thomson is a player/coach, too.
He had that role last year too.
I scanned through the list and there are quite a few well-known ex players involved as coaches. de Malmanche is another at HOB. I see that James Semple is one of the Matamata coaches. I don't know if that is the Nathan Harris.
-
Tehiorangi Walden is at 12 for Poneke tomorrow
Alex Fidow at 3 for Ories
Josh Moorby at 15 for Upper Hutt
More Importantly it’s a certain Ferners first game of rugby tomorrow after a year out with a torn Bicep. -

S.U.R.F from Tokoroa are setting the standard in Division One in the Waikato, they played my club Te Rapa today. We didn't get thrashed by 50 so I see that is an improvement. Isaac Boss was playing halfback. Ross Filipo was watching.

University v Hamilton Marist - Waikato UniversityOut of curiosity, I will likely go along to watch HOB vs TA Sports.
-
Hapakuki Moala-Liava'a is back playing for East Coast Bays. Was he overseas?
Edit: looks like he was in Japan.
-
TA Sports beat Hamilton OB 33-24. I'll post the full rounds results when available.
I over-heard someone say that Malachi Wrampling will be missing some games when involved with the Chiefs U20s. He is a beast for a no.8, one year out of school. Some of the other younger players might also be part of the squad.
@Stargazer Smiler-Ah Kiong looked very dangerous with the extra space at fullback.

Back down to Earth for Silverdale, good result for Massey, disappointment for ECB after being up at halftime.
-
My club Te Rapa hosted Taupiri. A couple of losses but the top team is improving. Bev's Broadcasting was there so it was good for out of towners to get to watch the team and get we get to see a highlights package too. Us old boys had a run around against a couple of other Presidents teams. Geez we could do with some rain in Hamilton, dust flying everywhere.

@Number-10 No, that's a different player. The former Highlander Nasi Manu still played for Hino Red Dolphins, last Sunday.

Waikato Draught Premiership A Week 5 (Kickoff 2.45 pm)
Fraser Tech are the only remaining Premiership side yet to taste defeat this season and have successfully recorded 4 bonus point victories to sit at the top of the standings with 20 points. Hamilton Marist and Te Awamutu Sports are second equal with 14 points then there is a log jam between 4th and 8th, with only 2 points separating these teams. This weekend Fraser Tech will face their first challenge this season for the Stag Trophy when they host University, this match will also be a Ron Crawford Memorial Trophy challenge as well.Fraser Tech v University - Waikato Steel Fabricators Park (Ron Crawford Memorial & Stag Trophy Challenge)
Hamilton Marist v Melville - Marist Park
Hautapu v Hamilton Old Boys - Memorial Park, Cambridge
Morrinsville Sports v Te Awamutu Sports - Campbell Park
United Matamata Sports v Otorohanga - Bedford Park -
@Bovidae Only just noticed that Elijah Mataira has joined his Hastings Boys' team mate Latrel Smiler-Ah Kiong at Te Awamutu.
Btw, have you seen Smiler Ah Kiong play, this season? How is he going?

I did mention to you that he played well at fullback in the game I watched 2 weeks ago. That was the same game that Gideon Wrampling re-injured himself. Smiler-Ah Kiong is back at 1st 5 this week as TA Sports are missing a lot of players involved in the U20 tournament (4 with the Chiefs and 2 with the Barbarians).
One of the reasons I went to watch TA Sports was because of the large number of recent school leavers in their team. Apart from your Hastings BHS players, there are at least 8 from Hamilton BHS and 5 or so from St Paul's. So it's a very young team.

@Stargazer They may be Mormons and doing some studies at the Mormon Temple up that way?
