I'm not sure if they got to choose but I would have thought Hirini, Nathan-Wong, Brazier and Woodman especially shone out in Aupiki.
Tui being the only one is a bit funny as she was probably the 'flakiest' of the Sevens girls at 15s. Great competitor but unpredictable and loose (as you would expect)

A certain hooker hasn't been selected. The final selection of the props will tell us if Moore and co have learnt their lessons from the NH tour. We need more size and dynamism in the tight five. Finding a lock over 6' would also help the lineout. Too late now to convert a netball/basketball player.

@crucial Yeah, but there's a Commonwealth Sevens (20 July - 1 August) and RWC Sevens (9-11 September) coming up first, this year. They may return to XVs after that. Although there's only a month in-between both RWCs, I think they did that last time, too (I mean a late switch). I think the upcoming legs of the World Series determine the RWC draw.

Wayne Smith to join the coaching staff for the WC (Newshub).

The sevens women are all keen to be involved.

Other than the tweet suggests, Mark Robinson didn't confirm this on the Breakdown, but said there would be further announcements over the next week or two.

Seems that these performance reviews are a mere formality.

The review will be released this week but it appears his reappointment wasn't a formality, and Moore even considered stepping down.

Looks to me (with zero knowledge of what went down) that Moore's defence was that he wasnt supported enough and his weaker areas may have poked through.
Although both Smith and Henry have great rugby knowledge they are also masters at player performance management.
The only thing that surprises me (or doesn't) is the lack of announcement of a female coach/manager in the mix or a well respected ex player. Sometimes there is a level of understanding required that goes beyond the experience of the male coaches. Understanding the needs/ways of those you are coaching is a key success factor. That Moore felt blindsided by the comments post tour shows that he didn't have his finger on the pulse.

    Finally. The official announcement.

    https://www.allblacks.com/news/black-ferns-bolstered-by-wayne-smith-appointment/

“He’s already gone through reviewing their recent matches and has some good insights in where the team can grow. We’ve seen some real excitement from the current management group and player leaders around what he will bring to the set up,” said Anthony.

Smith said his desire to get involved with the Black Ferns goes back to his relationship with women’s rugby stalwart at legend Laurie O’Reilly. Namesake for the trophy played between the Black Ferns and Australia, O’Reilly recruited Smith into the women’s game in the late 1980’s in Canterbury.

“My want to get involved with the Black Ferns started as a tribute to Laurie who was a great mate and mentor of mine. I indicated to him before he passed away that I would help the women’s rugby in whatever way I could and now I get the chance.”
    WAYNE SMITH

The Black Ferns are preparing for the Pacific Four Series, where they will play Canada, USA and Australia in June this year.

    Nothing on Graham Henry.

The findings of the review were released in Auckland on Monday. It spanned more than 30 pages and offered 26 recommendations.
The reviewers said the on-tour situation was “not well managed or monitored and should have been escalated.”
The report identified key themes centring on the high performance environment, management and leadership structures, communication, health, wellbeing and culture.

@bovidae 26 recommendations.? 26! That almost sounds like 23 of them were positional specific. i.e. pick a better tighthead etc.

Yeah this is the article I read. Fucking what? Reads to me like the findings, recommendations, and plans are just a random selection of words.

    I like this one best

Create an environment that is safe and inclusive with regard to culture, gender and

sexuality (and address any gaps in these capabilities). This capability should be assessed

    by credible experts;

Basically every review has this in, despite this being for a team of one specific biological gender. AFAIK a trans woman can't play for the Black Ferns.

Unless I'm getting the terminology mixed up?

@machpants I would imagine it covers not just players but support staff too (i.e. male coaches, physios etc)

@kiwimurph Yeah I heard reports author on radio saying more women in and around the team would improve culture but at the end of the day they had to be the most qualified people too.

It does seem a little strange that it is a playing group of young, mostly Polynesian women and the support staff are almost all old, white men.

Haven't read the report (coz Fern) but it does seem like the two groups would have practically nothing in common apart from the core footy.
