2022 Women's Cricket World Cup in New Zealand

The other cringey thing was the commentators being apologetic about Covid-19 being the reason for there being 200 people in the crowd for something like South Africa v Bangaldesh, as if it would have been a sell out without any restrictions.
I expect NZ games would have had an okay attendance, but the others?

To be fair to the commentators, just prior to the tournament the organisers cancelled and refunded all the Venue packs that they'd sold about a year ago, and then three days later they tried to get us to buy family passes to the individual games at effectively three and a half times the price that we'd already paid - and for school day games. Thanks but no thanks CWC organisers... we didn't take them up on it...

Is the fielding always this atrocious?
Nicely done.
@nzzp disappeared, I had to do something, desperation.
Stopped watching. The things I do for Polish chicks on the internet.
Anyway, don't worry, sa all over this, hardly worth watchingYou sir, can fuck off back to wherever you were

Feck. Got to at least bat out your overs, and we didn't do that...
Yep, dumb batting at the end. Even 4-5 singles per over gets NZ another 10 runs. But nah, let's go for the big shot...
Honestly, NZ didn't deserve to win. Tahuhu might be quick but has absolutely no control.

I stopped watching for a bit but why wasn’t our most economical bowler bowled out?
Probably for the same reason our best bowler over the last two years wasn't selected for the tournament. The White Ferns brains trust is a misnomer sometimes...

Two games taken to the wire and two lost.
I stopped watching for a bit but why wasn’t our most economical bowler bowled out?I think Devine hoped she could pull a Dottin - went for experience.
Bangladesh and Pakistan could do us some handy favours, but if we are to win the whole thing we need to flounder into the play-offs and basically not lose our third wicket until 45 overs are gone in both games.

We would still get bowled out methinks

Mackay over J Kerr was a strange choice for the last over.
-
About only thing I can think of is that it was Jess Kerr who got hit for 20 in an over v India when Harmanpreet Kaur led that late charge. (The TV graphics and Cricinfo pinned most of that over on Hannah Rowe before correcting it...) Still, Jess Kerr bowled well tonight. And the big over in the India game was also an aberration in her figures there too.

Kerr only bowled 7. Another couple of tighter overs could have piled the pressure on

Halliday, Martin & Mackay lack power at 6,7 and 8, hopeless just working singles when they also need to hit more boundaries as well... have to bring in some of the bigger hitters like Rowe, Tahuhu & J.kerr ahead of some of those 3 at times depending how the game is going, should've done that against South Africa.
We're now in the embarrassing situation of maybe missing out on making the last 4 in our own backyard.

Last four of eight, with two easy beats in there.
Massive game Sunday. Loser goes home.

We're already home, so that's easy

reflecting on this, I have enjoyed a number of these games, but there is clearly room for skill improvement - particularly in the fielding. That just takes time and money; was reflecting on rugby players of 30 years ago (pre-professionalism) with how they look now; they're different species. Cricketers are the same, pre-IPL and T20, you didn't see the power hitters you see now.
The womens game will move along the same path; you'll see better athletes, with better conditioning, and better skill levels. I'm all for it; anything that puts more meaningful cricket on the table is going to be a good thing.
