I see Oli Jäger made the team of the week.

What are the chances of him being called up in July?

And by whom!? Would he choose the ABs over Ireland?

I really don’t see it. Maybe I’m missing something but I have yet to be impressed by Jäger.

He's certainly not good enough to be a prop for Ireland!

But Robinson said the NZ Rugby board has made the decision at its meeting this week that the bottom line shouldn’t always be put ahead of allowing people throughout the country to see the All Blacks.

Sweet, so I guess some of the other regions, Invercargill, Whangarei, Palmy might see a test in the near future?

That article says that Hamilton also gets an Argentinean test.

The proposed Māori-Ireland game is still a possibility.

I'll try to make three of those, weekend in Welly with the boys, Tron with my uni boy, and dirty weekend in Auckland with the wife. Bring it on, I only got to one of the four from last year!

If the answer is Jager, we're going backwards from Owen Franks.

The tackles stats are pretty crazy for the game (they have Christie with 48, Dickson with 38, and Coltman with 32) but he did well there with 28 tackles and no misses. Also didn't concede a penalty. On the other side it looks like he touched the ball 6 times in the game - 2 passes, 4 runs, zero metres.

Surely 4 runs would add up to at least a metre ?

Your Comment from 19th Jan 2022, replying to @bobily stats for TH props on AB depth thread,

"Jager looks good, Laulala looks very average, and Ofa's stats show his upside. Mafileo looks like a Lomax that can scrummage."

Mafileo offers nothing else but the occasional good scrum. Apart from that he goes missing in all other aspects of the game. Lomax is the inform TH, Laulala does nothing at the breakdown and Ofa needs more game time.

Thomas Umaga Jensen needs a serious look if he can stay fit this season.

Nearly 110kg, good footwork, good handling skills.

Unfortunately I can't see this AB coaching team having the guts to cut some of these other midfielders. Perhaps Schmidt might be able to have some influence.

@kiwimurph yea you wonder what it will take for anyone to 'break into' the ABs at present.

We need props to compliment Samisoni, a couple of ball running locks to break up the favoured Whitelock-BBR duo, another loosie to enter the mix, sadly I cant see any 8s that will allow Ardie back to 7 where he is more effective, despite how he plays, he throws out the balance at 8.

Our 9 depth is building, 10 is an issue, then the mid-field, we have centres, but 12 is a massive issue, I think Goodhue could work well there if he is played there consistently, but TUJ certainly looks a natural there.

@taniwharugby in the squads, there hasn't been anyone clearly missing out. They've selected as well as they could generally, it's the tactics and 23 being put out there that have us scratching heads

Ardie doesn't throw the balance out, it just requires a different balance to that you are imagining.
    What's wrong with a tight 6?

@crucial well he throws it out because we dont really have a tight 6, actually we probably do, but none of the Super teams seem to play them that way, meaning we pick a loose 6 and 2 x 6.5s

Physically, Akira is the best to play tighter, but because he is so athletic, the temptation not to run him wide is too much I guess.

Funny. I'm coming around to the Ardie at 8 thing. Especially how he is playing this year.

@booboo I dont think his play at super has ever been an issue, even in black he could be effective if we had the right guys to compliment him

Its just about getting the balance right, when at present in black we seem to play 3 6.5s

Yet we seem to have a hell of a lot of too short locks that like to tackle and hit rucks. I'd like to see someone like Selby-Rickett at 6. Big, physical, gets around.
Trouble is that Ardie is our best 8 by a long stretch and at least 3rd in ranking of 7s.
I'd rather find a 6 than have an average 8 and Ardie on the bench.

@crucial well like most things, seems pretty obvious from the outside, yet Fozzie and his team can't seem to see the right game plan to suit the players he is selecting.

Instead they are just picking a team regardless of how they are to play.

@taniwharugby Eddie Jones doesn’t hesitate to play locks at 6 as long as they like to tackle and cart the ball.

Is Sowakula eligible for the ABs? He is the form No.8 in the country at the moment.
