Interesting to see Kens son come back from the wilderness !
It's at least theoretically possible that in a couple of years time in a T20 or ODI v an Associate Member Nation there could be a Black Caps side including sons of Latham, Rutherford, B Bracewell, Cumming, Kuggeleijn, and Pringle.
For a further local cricket tangent, an interesting name appears twice here in the Baywide Cup (T20):
SunLive: Pringle can’t stop scoring runs as Cadets win cup

Stead confirmed last night that Nicholls will move up to 4 and Mitchell will bat at 5. If Henry replaces Boult then it is CdG vs Ravindra for the 7 spot.
What's up with Boult? That will be a choice to make. Apart from saving the first test in India I'd suggest Ravindra hasn't exactly ripped up trees. Considering his record in NZ conditions, despite his poor performance of late, I'd probably pick Colin

Bloody new age bullshit.
Need to return to the days when the father gets a phone call at work and goes straight to the pub to celebrate. -

Boult comes across as really bloody soft, we all remember him staying back in NZ saying he missed his family, then going over to England later on to join up with the squad, ffs ! all the other players would've missed their families too, but they were there for the whole tour.

Yeah, Ravindra has done stuff all, Colin would have to start over him... also with Williamson missing we need as much experience as we can get in our batting against a team like South Africa.
Hope Matt Henry isn't picked in the 11, why does this bloke continued to get selected in test squads ? ...he doesn't swing it, doesn't use a slower ball or use the width of the crease, he totally relies on a seaming wicket, his bowling average is very poor, 46.

@nzbloke he did well somewhere recently for us? But I agree, I'm not a fan

Reckon he'll be a good player in the future, but isn't up to it at this stage.

I was talking about Henry. Yes to Ravindra, deserves nurturing. That innings in India took some guts

Yeah, Henry bowled well in England last year, was man of the match in the game he played.
Looks like a weak batting lineup with Mitchell at 5 and I totally don't understand why Ravindra bats at seven when he plays, at least let him bat before Blundell.
-
Ravindra should take the 7 spot need a point of difference 4 quicks and Tuffey with little meds, We don't need another little seamer.
SA like the pace less happy against spin,We need that option.
Hagley may take some turn on the last day and a half.
Ravindra does turn the ball and has a top spinner so there is variation. -
Donsteppa's team:
- Young
- Latham
- Conway
- Nicholls
- Mitchell
- Ravindra
- Blundell
- de Grandhomme
- Jamieson
- Southee
- Wagner
While they'd probably swap 6 & 7 in practice, my half-pie theory with a couple of flaws in it is that Ravindra needs to prove himself with the bat, while Blundell averages 11.42 after seven innings batting at #6. (https://www.espncricinfo.com/player/tom-blundell-440516/bowling-batting-stats)
I'm thinking that de Grandhomme and Wagner bowling in tandem could be a good combination for alternating between drying up runs/pressure from the short ball.
-
Ravindra's massive test batting average of less than 15, one strong innings of defence in India, followed up with batting and bowling bollocks in the Mount.
He is a player of the future for sure and should be around the squad, but is the cupboard that bare that he is the only option for right now? I'm thinking from the comments that the answer is yes?

I can’t see a better LH slow orthodox option around.
At least he takes the ball away from RH bat,
More dangerous than a unorthodox option.
