Boyd was Tonga's defense coach during the 2011 world cup (when they defeated France), could potentially replace McLeod?

That would be just so much more trouble than it worth. Anyway he wouldn't be able to play under NZR, NZ Govt, or Aussie laws.

He would never be able to displace Reed Prinsep so would only be a bench player at best should he get signed for the Hurricanes.

Wouldn't he be at lock? He likely wouldn't take Blackwell's spot, but could still take Scrafton's/Bird's.
