You'd think with all those players being brought in and Vahaakolo missing, it confirms things.

Highlanders name replacement players to cover All Black leave and Squad injuries | Highlanders Rugby Club Limited Partnership

The Highlanders have added three players as temporary replacements to cover for their All Blacks who will return to the squad in mid to late January after a break following their Northern Tour.

In for All Blacks Aaron Smith, Shannon Frizell and Ethan De Groot are Otago players halfback James Arscott, loose forward Sam Fischli and up and coming Ta$man prop Luca Inch

Christian Lio-Willie has been drafted in to cover for the injured Billy Harmon who is not expected back until early April. Otago halfback, Nathan Hastie (selected for the 2021 NZ U20 team) will back up the rehabbing Folau Fakatava who is due to be available in the early rounds of Super Rugby Pacific

happy enough with all those, generally all looked pretty good during NPC

    sad for freedom though

arscott, leo willie and, fischli all really looked like starters at NPC level and hoping they will all grow

Interesting article about Jermaine Ainsley, that under the new eligibility criteria he could push for an All Black jersey.

While it is a nice idea that he could have a re-set. I don't know if he is capable of cracking the All Blacks.

@southernmann feels wrong potentially playing for a team you've previously played against

but if someone was going to do it now is the time, props are a bit of limbo, been fine but not world class so a standout season might do it

He's a mobile tighthead? Don't think we are used to that sort of creature.

I don't think it can be unless his legs have grown massively. I can't think of any better alternative, though

He's an 19 year old prop - should make the u20 team this year. He looked pretty good last year for the Highlanders U20s.

Rohan Wingham. I was sitting next to his parents watching the NZ Schools trial game in 2020. His scrum went backwards that day.

@tim it's great to see the spirit of Ngani living on in NZ rugby.

Yep but did it go backwards because of him, or the whole pack, which is often the case.

Wingham made the NZ Schools squad so obviously has talent. I remember him being mobile around the field. The other team had the two best schoolboy props IMO.

    Here were the packs:

    HADEN XV
1 Rohan Wingham (Kings High School)
2 Aminiasi Toga (St Andrew's College)
3 Harris McRobbie (Rangiora High School)
4 Alan Craig (St Kentigern College)
5 Fabian Holland (Christchurch Boys' High School)
6 Ollie Haig (Otago Boys' High School)
7 Will Bason (St Kentigern College)
8 Te Rama Reuben (St Kentigern College)

    WHETTON XV
1 Mason Tupaea (Hamilton Boys' High School)
2 James Mullan (Rangiora High School)
3 Havila Molia (St Paul's Collegiate)
    4 Jadin Kingi (Sacred Heart)
5 Jamie Hannah (Christchurch Boys' High School)
6 Torian Barnes (St Andrew's College)
    7 Fletcher Anderson (Christ's College)
8 Wallace Sititi (De La Salle College)

The Haden XV actually had more bulk at lock.
