Is all well with this service? They have a bare bones cricket commentary team doing 1 hour stints, the tea session is a single camera into the comm box with no b roll. Massive change in commentators between the two tests too.

It seems obvious to me that getting the cricket was a foot in the door. They would want to target other sports as well and build a whole network. Sky seems to have batted them off on other fronts and Spark don't even have all the cricket!

I wouldn't be surprised to see Spark pull up stumps.

Yeah. It was meant to be the answer to Voda and Sky (or to keep some of that market) but I think that combo hasn’t been profitable either. The other thing was to convert their customers to fibre packages but with the wholesale of that coming meaning any startups can offer high speeds and no limits there’s not much to offer package wise.
I don’t like a monopoly but fragmentation is worse. Getting rid of exclusivity and competing on price and stability would be the best thing.

Would it be the Spark feed and commentary that we are getting in Aus? Fleming, McMillan, Baz and a female or two whose name(s) I don't know. They seem ok to me.

    Yes

Unpopular opinion on here for some people, but I find spark technology and streaming better than sky. The ability to start from the beginning is great, quality for me has been high including on some ropey holiday internet services.

If only the cricket had been as good 👍

Their commentary is fine, it just seems they have massively cheapest out on comms and lunch/tea production compared to last year.

I am enjoying the big bash and ashes on sky sport. The commentary and production are excellent. Makes me miss nz cricket less. But I go live to games when I can.

My user experience frustratingly continues to be that the Spark Sport app was developed, and is maintained, incredibly badly.

It runs terribly, including this morning, on devices that run Netflix etc smoothly. Spark has been unwatchable - yet again - since just after the guard of honour for Taylor. Reinstalling and restarting everything under the sun makes no difference.

The sooner Spark Sport gives up and sells out to Sky the better as far as I’m concerned.

@donsteppa Seems that they have different apps for different TV brands. The app for Sony TVs, delivered by the Google Play Store, only streams at 720p25, whereas their app for some other TVs streams at 1080p50. I use chromecast from my computer to my Sony TV to get full rate streaming.

Interesting. We have the app on one 2020 Panasonic TV, otherwise I chromecast to an older Panasonic in the lounge. The chromecast tends to be the more than watchable of the two, but not always.

Have just about thrown the newer TV out the window this morning after reboots and app reinstalls in vain, as well as ensuring it was the only device streaming on a fibre connection…

Yep, I'm glad not everyone is at risk of destroying their TV 🙂

The jostling for sport content continues as Sky has regained the EPL rights. I haven't bothered with Spark Sport outside of the RWC.

@hooroo But the European football competitions remain on Spark, so the football tragics will still need to subscribe to both platforms.

Is there even a tea program for the cricket on the NZ feed? I complained during the Bangles series it was a single camera into the comm box and now there has been nothing for the first two days on the international feed?

I was watching an outstanding women's NCAA basketball game recorded on my sky box. 2 minutes from the finish and the recording ended. How annoying. This shit doesn't happen with an on demand streaming service
