Problem is Takam looked the much better fighter from the 5th round on. What people didnt pick up though was Takams tank was also empty, though he paced himself a lot better than Parker did.<br><br>
Soon as your fighter is shown on major UK or USA tv Lonergan you will never be able to stop the free streams. Obviously they didnt make as much as they thought they were going to from PPV. $49.99 is quite expensive when compare to other prime boxers PPV.</p> -

<p>Pretty amusing hearing Lonegan get all shitty and say he's coming after those who streamed illegally. I think Lonegan is a typical loudmouth dick as someone said earlier but the point he makes are quite vaild. There'll be a few nerds shitting bricks about being caught cos apparently it's quite easy to track via the decoder.</p>

It wasn't just streams of the broadcast either. It was people simply cell phoning the game live to Facebook and periscope. <br><br>
$50 is way too much for me to dish out on an event that could potentially be over in minutes.<br>
$20 and I would probably have paid last minute as I was up and keen to watch. -

<p>- This was not a highlight reels fight for Parker. Takam was manhandling Parker several times during the fight, it was so bad that if Takam had the power of a Haye, Joshua, Wilder or Ortiz im utterly convince Parker would of been knocked out.</p>
<p>- Parkers defense under pressure was horrid, he would be exposed by higher ranked fighters. He made it to the end of the fight due to Takam not having ko power in his hands and Parker having a decent enough chin. But make no mistake, Parker allowed himself to take to many shots because he was so tired. Against a boxer like Ortiz, Haye, Wilder and AJ this would of been a KO loss.</p>
<p>- Parker was throwing many slap shots with his right hand, most landing with the inside of his glove, thats horrible and amateur level stuff.</p>
<p>- Parker does not have the punching power we though he had. It was missing and dare say while his hand speed is close to the best in the heaveyweight division his power has been overated.</p>
<p>- Parker looked disorganised, as soon as he was gassed, most structure went out the window, and unto a late 2nd wind at the end parker was gettibg by on heart alone and a chin that could take what Takam threw.</p>
<p>- Parker is always open to counters, to being crowded and hustled and his footwork poor.</p>

<p>Great post and I agree with all of this. I wonder if Barry's coaching is at top level? Because Parker seems to have the athleticism and work ethic..</p>
<p>I also wondered about his upper cut..Takam has a solid head but the way he pushed his chin forward and protected the sides with his hands up high I thought an upper cut or two in the later rounds might be interesting?</p>
<p>But overall yes a lack of power from Parker at this level, and not keeping his distance and using his superior reach showed he still has some way to go.</p> -

<p>I reckon the concerning thing for the Parker camp was that Joseph didn't look <u>that</u> busy in the first four rounds that he should have been looking so knackered by round five. Takam wouldn't have needed to be a lot busier to have picked up a lot of those middle and later rounds (6/7 and 10/11 all of which I think Parker won).</p>

<p>I suppose on the plus side - at the end of round eight - watching live you would have been expecting Takam to go on to a knock out and it was doubtless fortuitous that he ran out of gas as well. </p> -

Parker is small. He needs more beef to bang. <br><br>
His arms are short and his jab was ineffectual against a fighter with a proper reach. <br><br>
His defence is now so questionable you have to wonder if Barry is a capable coach.<br><br>
His tank is not good for 6 rounds let alone 12.<br><br>
He struggled in close and you could see the size and strenth of Takam was wearing him down too easily.<br><br>
Thats the negative out of the way.<br><br>
He has a chin. Solid taken some heavy hits. Never looked shaky or confused/spaced. Very good sign. Joshua has a questionable chin.<br><br>
He is still too quick for everyone hes come up against. There were a few shots Takam took, reeled back from and before he could think about that shot he was hit my 2 more.<br><br>
He is strong. Not so much with the punches but he threw Takam across the ring at one stage. If he can use that in the clinch and smothering guys on the ropes he'd be able to wear guys down more easily without exerting so much energy.<br><br>
His off the ropes counter punching was very good. Excellent in some exchanges.<br><br>
His heart. He got through his toughest test not because hes a prodigy but because he wanted it more than Takam. It was a war and he won it outright. He was tested in every area and he still won. Fairly. He was the winner, no controversy, he won fair and square.<br><br>
The future.<br><br>
I saw today that Solomon Haumono is claiming hes fighting JP next. Strange if true. A bit risky IMO. SH is a knock out artist and could seriously fuck up JPs cred if he gets lucky. However SH is 40 and not actually that great of a boxer. Funny though as I reckon this may just be the Aussie media reaching. Trying to get in on the hype.<br><br>
Barry should be commended for getting him this far but JP needs a coach that can give him defence. Its been apparent for a while now that hes lacking and open to an over hand left or right. He carries his hands far too low and doesnt tuck his chin in. Fast guys will often carry their hands low but he leaves his chin out there. Not good at all. <br><br>
He needs to get away from NZ and fight some guys in the US away from the hype machine here in NZ. Too easy a road fighting at home. I know its about bank and home court advantage and you could argue no other fighters give away that advantage. But i think its the difference in being an also ran and being a real champ. Go out of you comfort zone and win where no one knows you. Box to get better not to just get paid. <br><br>
Dont imagine Duco would let that happen unfortunately. Theyll ride this kid into he ground. Cheapen his rep by holding more pressers in burger joints. Ahh im digressing....<br><br>
Its crazy you know, all of this stuff surrounding a 24yo on the verge of super stardom. Lets just hope he gets there.<br><br><br><br>

<p>Boxing promoter Dean Lonergan has spoken for the first time since he labelled illegal streamers of the Joseph Parker vs Carlos Takam fight "complete lowlife s***heads" yesterday.</p>
<p>The bout between Parker and Takam on Saturday night was viewed over 100,000 times on Facebook as the fight was live-streamed on social media and re-broadcast unlawfully by filming Sky TV's $49.99 coverage of the match.</p>
<p>Lonergan was fuming yesterday, saying he would be looking to find those who illegally streamed the event and would be looking to bill them up to tens of thousands of dollars.</p>
<p>"If we can find who those people are we'll be looking to bill them, probably in the tens of thousands of dollars," Lonergan said yesterday.</p>
<p>"There will be two choices when we find out who they are, we'll send them an invoice for tens of thousands of dollars and they can pay that or they'll find themselves in court.</p>

<p>Speaking this morning to Andrew Mulligan on the <i>Crowd Goes Wild Breakfast</i>, Lonergan said that the media had blown his comments out of proportion, but was still adamant in tracking down and charging illegal streamers of the fight.</p>

<p>"What's fascinating is that the media just seem to have a fascination with this [Lonergan's comments surrounding illegal streaming], the media have blown this to be something bigger than what it is," Lonergan said.</p>

<p>"There's a wonderful thing called digital footprints and screenshots. It's not as if we can't find these people, and it's not as if we won't, and we're going to.</p>
<p>"They've stolen something, they're re-streaming it, they can pay the price and I'm looking forward to it."</p>
<p>James Bryant posted a stream of the event on Facebook and wasn't worried by the threats by Duco and Sky. He thought the pay-per-view price was "ridiculous".</p>
<p>"I challenge Mr Lonergan to try to sue me - like anything that goes before court, evidence must be obtained. It will be impossible to prove who has been streaming it."</p>
<p>Duco chief executive Martin Snedden's taking a more conciliatory approach to the controversy. Snedden said it's more about addressing the situation next time.</p>
<p>"We're going to have to find a bit about this," he told Radio Sport's Martin Devlin on the DRS.</p>
<p>"Dean and I are a little bit old and we don't come from the younger school that knows about this sort of stuff.</p>
<p>"We and Sky will start working on it and I think probably what we'll do is target the guys that were doing the large facilitation of the streaming. "</p>

<p>"In the end if you don't like it, don't buy it but that doesn't give you any excuse to steal it. And that's exactly what these people have done."</p>
<p>Internet piracy law expert Rick Shera said people who live-streamed were easy legal targets. "It's a pretty blatant, obvious copyright breach. The breach is in copying it from the TV screen and then as a separate breach in communicating it again."</p>
<p>Mr Shera said the losses suffered by the copyright holder would be the basis of any damages claim and this could be 100,000 times $49.99 - nearly $5 million.</p>
<p>But it was unclear what level of proof of loss was required.</p>
<p>"Had it not been for the infringement, would 100,000 people have paid $50 to view it? The answer is probably no. The court would hear evidence on what the likely viewership would there have been and how would that have played out."</p>

<p>It is believed part of the reason that the match was watched illegally by so many viewers is that the fee of $49.99 that Sky TV was charging its viewers for the pay-per-view match was too much for many, meaning they reverted to illegal streaming of the bout, which was free of cost.</p>
<p>When questioned by Mulligan about why the fight cost $49.99 to view on Sky TV, Lonergan explained that customers needed to be charged that highly in order for Parker to be paid appropriately for his fights, or else he would have to host fights outside of New Zealand.</p>
<p>"When we put on a fight in New Zealand, it costs $2 million to make, e have to somehow make that money back, " Lonergan stated.</p>
<p>"Now we do that through sales of corporate sponsorship, and we have to sell pay-per-view, and if we sell it for any less, the chances are we aren't going to break even.</p>
<p>"So that's the business we're in. This is a market where the fight has the most value, but most interestingly, this is a market where the fight costs the most to put on.</p>
<p>"So surely as a business, we're entitled to at least get to break even and make some profit so we can continue to pay Joseph Parker in the manner that he should be paid, and we can keep him fighting here in New Zealand, because what will happen is if we can't monetize the deal, we'll have to go overseas and New Zealanders will miss out.</p>
<p>"You've got to pay, simple as that."</p>
<p><strong>Sky - If you are not paying for something you are stealing it</strong></p>
<p>Sky spokesperson Kirsty Way told Mulligan the company "takes piracy very seriously because it is theft".</p>
<p>"If you are not paying for something you are stealing it," she said.</p>
<p>"This is a high profile case but we are always looking for illegal streams and yes, we can track it down and we will track it down.</p>
<p>"I don't think it is a grey area...it is definitely wrong. If you don't like the price of something, you can't just take it for free."</p>

<p>Meanwhile, Way said Sky was still "hopeful" of getting rights to the English Premier League, which will no longer be carried by online provider Coliseum.</p>
<p>"The pricing was rich, very expensive, and very hard to justify and look at how we might even be close to breaking even," she said.</p>
<p>"There is still dialogue going on."</p>
<p><strong>How people stream sport on Facebook</strong></p>
<p>Advances in technology mean anyone can produce a live stream, and all they need is a smartphone with the Facebook app.</p>
<p>Savvy Kiwis have been using Facebook to live stream some of our top sporting events including the Parker fight to their Facebook friends who don't have Sky.</p>
<p>They put their phone on a tripod while they're watching the sporting event and film their TV screen. This video is broadcast live on Facebook, and anyone from around the world can hook into the stream.</p>
<p>During the stream fans can comment and interact while watching it, offering a whole new level of interactivity for fans watching live sport that has never been available before.</p>

<p>I contemplated streaming it as $50 was way too rich for my blood, but I ended up getting too excited about the match and paranoid I wouldn't get a decent stream then my brother offered to go halves with me so figured it was worth it then. Glad I did it was a terrific bout, far better than any of the previous ones I had watched. The undercard's weren't great but did offer a few laughs when that bloke went to celebrate what he thought was a knockout by climbing and then falling from the ropes. One of the undercard results seemed like a complete farce, the winner agreed and gave a pretty awkward interview straight after saying he didn't win.</p>
