Been a while.
Damn nearly stepped on this Sammie Saturday night.
Backed the ute in, walked around the front thereof and ooh fuck! FUCK THAT!
Anyway, what bemused me most was the stupid fucking cat.
See here Cleo-catra.
Said Sammie is just on the little bit of grass behind the line of the front wheel. Cleo is chasing a plague of locust (ie., really big grasshopper).
I'm busily throwing stones at Cleo to make her step away from the snake. And we thought she was the clever one.
Misty (the other cat) is hanging with me on the verandah with her hackles up.
Anyway. Turns out Sammie is actually Kelly the Keel back. Seems we don't mind keelbacks (non-venomous).
Kind of wondering if Cleo-catra is able to work out that Kelly is no danger, or if she is as thick as she looks.
This comes on the back of a yellow-faced whip snake buzzing around about 3 weeks ago.
Again, don't mind Winston whip snake ( either non or very mildly venomous depending on reference).
My ill informed opinion is if we have Kelly and Winston we're less likely to have serious type Sammies.
Still, fuck snakes.

I have often wondered whether they know. Our cats have bailed up a couple of tree snakes. Not sure if that was because they knew they were harmless or just got lucky.
I had another cat a few years ago that loved to eat spiders. I would often find her crunching on Huntsmans. One day she spotted a spider and rushed up to it. She backed away quickly and left it alone when she saw it was a redback.

@booboo someone I know lost a perfectly good Kelpie to a brown snake a couple of weeks back in the blue mountains.
Should have been a cat.
Coz cats know to stay away from venomous snakes, and dogs are too dumb to?
Cats care about themselves while dogs look to protect their owners?

'Aussie Snake Wranglers' on NatGeo Wild is my new favorite TV show.
Photogenic Strayans with mullets chasing slithery reptiles around the Sunny Coast.
Actually have their number in my phone, but think we have closer snake catchers.
Great fun.
This thread instead of TV shows thread because ...
...Straya!

0h yeah, meant to mention that a number of the snakeys they catch (essentially two hours from us) are flavours we get here, in particular Kelly Keelback and Winston Whipsnake.

@booboo well I just suggested a dawn trip down to Canberra for a day out.
But apparently miss 14 is breaking up with her boyfriend tomorrow, so we are on emotional support duty.
FFS...
Ha ha! That made me lol! I can imagine your frustration!
"You're 14 FFS!! You won't even remember this dude in a couple of years!!!"
