Young and Latham can take a fucking bow, that's an absolutely huge effort to get through to stumps no wickets down. Honestly being rolled for 120 odd was not off the cards on a dodgy Indian pitch against an onslaught of spin, so 129/0 is an amazing result.

Still... a big ask again tomorrow to knock off the deficit, but they've got us back in the game.

Not with this team. Too much talent.

So pleasing seeing Young do well and seeing him look relaxed and assured. What happens when Conway comes back ? Talk about good problems to have.

That wasn't a sleight on this team, very very good teams go to India and get rolled by their spinners after long periods in the field. That showed incredible mental fortitude to tough it out like that.

Also thank fuck for DRS, those decisions against Latham are exactly what it is for - when the players knows the umpire got it wrong.

Yeah I’m happy with technology when it helps cover potential human error.

Nothing irks me more in cricket than decisions that are howlers

Well I couldn't be happier with this situation. We're in a healthy position against a tier 1 nation, with two set batsmen and coverage resumes - on Sky too - at beer o'clock

    Brilliant day by blackcaps.

Despite that. Due to India keeping it tight in last session, us batting last, my ingrained pessimism, .... ys still trailing by over 200 makes me very nervous.

But cant have asked for more. Big ups to Timmy and the other bowlers, and these 2 openers.

We just got to bat as long as we can. When the bowlers and fielders get tired the runs will come.

Jittery start from both batsmen. Pitch looks to have deteriorated overnight.

Just have to try and survive the first session with minimal damage

Looks challenging out there this morning. But our boys have settled well and Young isn't far from a milestone now

TAB have draw as favourite. I can't really see a draw here. That pitch is looking dangerous today compared to yesterday and will continue to break up over the next 3 days.

I know I said we just need to bat, but now I think we should also look to be positive and keep the scoreboard ticking over. I was hoping to bat until lunch tomorrow, but I doubt that is realistic. Got to take runs where we can.

Bugger…….but Young has shown it’s gonna be tough for Conway to walk straight back in. Given Latham has one spot and KW is a shoe in it’s gonna be really interesting how the selectors go.

89 in extremely tough circumstances is a really good effort.

I went to lengths to underplay it. Didn't even name the milestone. I can't help it if he is a mental midget 🤷

It’s all good my bro. If we were superstitious we may as well not comment on any sport, ever.

I am just a bit upset but he looks the fucken goods, dare I say it we might have a Tubby Taylor/Slats/Hayden/Langer situation in NZ cricket…….too many good guys vying for two spots. Jeet Raval is waiting in the wings too.

With some of the complete and utter donkeys we’ve had in recent memory this is a wonderful situation to be in.

Conway can bat anywhere. I wouldn't be opposed to him batting 5 or 6 even. Ponting started at 5 in his career - not for long - but that is where he started

Taylor or Nicholls are the ones who need to be looking over their shoulders.

I can’t see them dropping Taylor but SURELY this is his last season ?

As for Nicholls he’s been going good, still rated 10th in the world ( mind you the overrated Stokes is still 16th so make of that what you will ).

I hear ya. Conway is something special though. He has looked incredibly comfortable in his career thus far. Conway will not be willingly left out of a Black Caps team for a decade.

Decade's a big call. Conway is not exactly a puppy.

Whatever happens there will be shuffling. But again, to use that Aussie team as an example Justin Langer was shoehorned as an opener and did brilliantly because he couldn’t get in ahead of Ponting/Martyn etc.

I thought Nicholls would got to four but perhaps he stays at five and Conway goes there ?

    Good issues to have.

That's my prediction. Then to 3 when KW retires.

He’s not there yet. Somewhere in the middle at best.

I’d pick our class players with more experience first.

KW is only a year older so he might not get much time there !!
