Almost a Golden era for Hair/Glam rock, the mid - late 80's.
You had Poison, Motley Crue, Guns n Roses, Bon Jovi, Def Leppard, Aeromsith plus more im missing.
All to be drowned out so to speak when Grunge came along just a few years later..
Guns n Roses are actually a good band though.
Thank god the early 90s came along and saved rock as a genre

I know it's @Tim thread, so his rules, but doesn't the presence of Def Leppard and Motley Crue derail it completely going by those rules? I'm less bogan than most of you lot on here and I wouldn't be embarrassed playing those two.
I’ll fight you on the Motley Crüe one. They were a joke of a band, no-talent poseurs. I don’t care how popular they were, they were rubbish. Nobody who was cool liked them. I wasn’t cool and even I didn’t like them.
But Kickstart My Heart is a hoot.
I wouldn’t quite say no talent……I’d reserve that judgement for the likes of Twisted Sister.

The thing about Motley Crue is that they had the absolute wussiest guitar tone. Such weak sounding, soft riffs.
Mick Mars is a bang average guitarist, the same for CC DeVille. Some of those 1980s bands had really good guitarists and musicians, just not those two.

The whole band was average. All modestly talented compared to others and were more famous for who they rooted rather than how they played.
A band like Iron Maiden on the other hand are chock full of some of the best in the business.

The drummers are the most talented in either band. Vince looks like he has spent the last 20 years at the buffet.
Tommy Lee did pretty well to play upside down to be fair
@Bovidae do you mean Iron Maiden as the other band ? Cos Steve Harris and Bruce Dickinson are absolute geniuses at what they do.

@mn5 No, Poison and Motley Crue. As you know, Maiden is one of my favourite bands. I've been playing their latest album regularly.
Right, that makes sense ( although Nicko McBrain can bash with the best of them )
A mate of mine said the latest Maiden album is really good so I’m gonna get it ready for my drive for work next week. They’re at an age where most bands release shitty albums full of filler material so I’m looking forward to being pleasantly surprised.

Not the Gunners. They survived the Grunge induced holocaust. Trouble is they broke up shortly after. Bon Jovi also seemed to hang in there. But Poison, Motley Crew, Warrant etc were destroyed basically overnight.

Back for Good.
By Take That.
Especially that tempo change.
The melody is not too low, not too high. Perfect karaoke fodder. Speaking of which, who didn't go to a karaoke party back in the day? No one wants to get up and sing, fast forward a few hours and several beers in and everyone thinks they're Freddy Mercury

Which is a good thing.
All the band mentioned sound dated as all fuck nowadays except the Gunners. Appetite for Destruction still sounds pretty timeless in my opinion.
Even so they weren’t without their flaws. The Spagetti album was pretty shite.

Yep, they were on another level. Interestingly Slash auditioned for Poison but wasn't considered to have the right look or some shit. Which probably says everything about that band. I have to say that Every Rose, Fallen Angels and Skinny Bop are decent enough songs but Motley Crew has no redeeming features IMHO. That Girls song is fůcking shit.
An honourable mention is Europe (Final Countdown). And speaking of Sweden, I wonder if anyone is brave enough to admit to liking ABBA....
