Waikato v Tasman (Premiership Final)

I vaguely remember cars parading around the ground at a game too. Maybe the 1992 final as it was an afternoon kickoff?

As a neutral, I must say it's a real feat for Ta$man to reach the final for the third time in three years, with the likes of Jordan, Havili, Christie, Blackadder, Frizell and Lomax being unavailable for them. Incredible depth (and money ?) for a province which biggest town is Nelson. Great for Waikato too, with a team of nobodies.
-
@cgrant And Reece.
Also, in the injury/defections ward Coxon, Moli, Parkinson, Sione Havili, Fox-Matamua, Paea, Talea and Marshall.
Segner will surely be missing for the final - no idea who they will replace him with. Actually, they'll probably swap Norris to the openside, but I'm struggling to think who goes onto the bench.
-
@dice Made of tough stuff those Germans! Pretty surprised to see him there.
Ware back to play on the wing.
Otherwise pretty much as expected. I had vague hopes of seeing PariPari in the line-up, but not expectations.
Only real surprise is seeing Tim O'Malley missing from the bench. I guess Knewstubb is covering first five. Don't get injured this year, Mitch!

How does the TTT thing work? Isn't he BOP?
You would have to go through the official channels with NZR and fill in the appropriate documentation for a transfer. Rhys Marshall is a NH player. Knewstubb was playing for H-K earlier in the season.

@yeetyaah tell that to the online commentators and bookies.. Ayden Johnstone is the only Waikato starter named for an NZ super franchise earlier this year and that was not the Chiefs even. His reserve Norris was the only Chief before TTT was added.

NZ Rugby - they couldn't give a fuck about running fair and balanced competitions.

Remember - these are the guys who want us to trust them to sign off on the Silver Lake deal.
Their efforts on simple things like running balanced competitions suggest they shouldn't be allowed to have a box of matches without adult supervision!

@chris-b Yes fair call. Waikato had a whole 24 hours or more to get all the players needed for the rest of the comp over the level 3 border. But they cut costs and only took 26 or so. They should pay the price for scrimping to be fair to all.
Mitch J or Waaka should have been training at 9 as cover this week as they carelessly did not arrange suitable training and playing opportunities for other eligible halfbacks in their region during lock down. And they should have foreseen they would likely be hosting the final after they were given the away schedule from hell to motivate them. -
God, if ever there was a game I wanted both teams to lose...
