Just finished watching highlights of our innings. Shit we had some luck!
Catches being taken over the boundary? Payback for Stokes-Boult 2019!
Boult really should have taken that without stepping on the boundary, that was a pretty regulation outfield catch.

England not managing to take miracle catches on the boundary is lucky? Ok

I like nice things being said about us.
Former international cricket umpire Bruce Oxenford believes the Blackcaps set the cricketing example all sides should follow.

The Australian stood in 62 test matches between 2008-21, 91 ODIs and 20 T20 internationals and was on the elite panel for a decade.Oxenford officiated New Zealand more than 20 international fixtures and has always been impressed by the spirit the side plays cricket in, while retaining a competitive nature.
"They are amazing,'' Oxenford tells The Courier Mail.
"They could be world champions in all three formats had it not been for an incorrect call on an overthrow in the 50-over World Cup. And that day they just got on with it.
"New Zealand just don't waste energy on things they cannot control. It is such a vital thing for all sports people. If you start concerning yourself with things that go wrong you can forget about the things that need to go right.
The 61-year-old is particularly complementary of New Zealand's attitude towards match officials and bad decisions that go against him.
Oxenford says on numerous occasions he witnessed a New Zealand player supporting himself or a colleague if the wrong decision was made.
"They can get a 50-50 call against them and they say 'oh well, that is what happens.' If you get a call against them wrong very often they will come up to
"It's incredible. It gives umpires confidence the way to umpires the way you think you should. They genuinely wish you well before and during the game. It is nice to be treated like an equal rather than an enemy on the field.
"If you can take all the negative energy out of your psyche it is a great way to go about it. Watching them actually helped me with my umpiring. You think "technology proved I got that one wrong ... that's tough. But I am going to move forward."
The nexus for the Blackcaps positive outlook on cricket was sewn by Brendon McCullum following the death of former Australian international Phil Hughes, Oxenford believes.
He says McCullum was all about respect for the game, the opposition, fans and officials, and following Hughes' death the former New Zealand skipper implemented those traits within his team.
"They played with absolute freedom after that. They were playing Pakistan in a test in the UAE when it happened. They did not want to play.
"They were talked into finishing the game. When they finally came back they bowled no bouncers and did not appeal. Rod Tucker said to them you have to appeal.
"They basically just went out and slogged and played brilliantly and thought 'why don't we play like this all the time?''
The now-retired umpire is a big fan of the current crop of New Zealand players who play England in the T20 Cricket World Cup semi-finals on Thursday morning.
"Kane Williamson is a ripper. Martin Guptill is a cracker. Their fast bowlers - Trent Boult and Tim Southee are brilliant.''

I think we're getting a bit ahead of ourselves wishing for a Pakistani final. Aus have been pretty trash this tourney, getting steamrolled by England, and barely scraping past a fairly average south african outfit. The other teams in the pool haven't fired a shot.
For me, our best chance is a Pakistani collapse vs Aus, and I don't think that's outside the realms of possibility. Pakistan have proven they know how to get out to rash shots, and the pressure is on them big time they way they're being talked up. This will be their first truly high-pressure game at this tournament - winning their first game almost guaranteed them a semi spot, and if they'd lost that they still had a damn good chance of making the semis. This is their first must-win.
Mentally, we're not the side we were in 2015. We're no one's bunny any more. We have won so far by using a consistent approach that gives us a damn good chance of winning. We don't throw away wickets early, and we hope like hell one of Phillips or Neesham can hit out when needed. That'll yeild a close final no matter who we face, and we're a side with enough mental fortitude to close out a big close game.
Anyway it's T20, it's a crapshoot, and we've currently got the best chance of anyone of winning the thing (50% vs the other teams' 25%)

I loathe T20 but if there's any room on the bandwagon can I please jump on board?
See you at 3am on Monday morning
I also loathe T20 and only half watched the game. With 4 overs left and 57 runs to get, I started getting ready for work. Came back to the TV with 34 needed off 3 and 2 overs later I loved T20 cricket.

Don't forget the skied miss hits that fell between fielders. On another day they could easily have gone to hand.
Nothing wrong having a bit of luck - it doesn't take anything away from the victory.

@delicatessen It is a bit of a crapshoot and likely to be dictated by who wins the toss.
In that regard, Pakistan won the toss vs India, us and Afghanistan.
They thumped India (but, so did we).
But, we had them in significant trouble at 87/5 - one more quick wicket and odds on we would have won that game - despite the disadvantage of losing the toss.
They also weren't particularly comfortable in beating Afghanistan.
They're a good team and could easily beat us - but, I'm a bit inclined to think they're not as formidable as their unbeaten run suggests. I'm significantly less worried about them than Oz.

We have built steadily through the tourney and look very good now. We have big match experience and will be tough to beat

Ok, I will admit I didn't watch game etc, T20 just doesn't do it for me.
But I will say I am stunned what this team has done in making final. That is 3 finals in 3 years over 3 different formats!!
Someone has to remind these buggers that NZ isn't any good at cricket!!
Hell we just don't have the money, number of plaers etc etc to be able to do this. When I think I am old enough to be someone who just thought we had reached our absolute peak when we beat the Poms at Athletic Park way back in 70s!!! -

Should have seen the UK coverage. Less than 5 mins after, Robert Key was going on sboit how it’s now time to focus on the big one, the Ashes.
KP is a good pundit with good insight. Always surprises me how softly spoken he is though.

@donsteppa yeah well KP is just a giant fuckhead so it's very easy to ignore anything that he produces.
Yep. Mate of mine took his cricket-mad & Pieterson-mad son down to Southampton to watch Warne & Pieterson play. They waited outside the dressing room with about 20 other kids and Pieterson simply barged thru, ignoring them and went straight to his car. Warnie spent 30 minutes with the kids, signing everything in sight and giving an impromptu coaching session.
But that's the difference between a dickhead and a genuine cricket great.

Yeah, I forgot to talk about how close the Pakistan game was at times. Good point. Still, I think Australia is just as beatable.

Warnie was probably angling to see if any of them had fit mums...

Pietersen was a fucken good player, very exciting to watch. Definitely in the top echelon of England batsmen. Can’t speak for his personality but he wasn’t too far below Warne in terms of cricket ability.
Warnie has at times proven himself to be a colossal dickwad at times too.

So glad I got up to watch delayed this morning. Meant a late finish at work but I was buzzing all day. Kudos to the NZ fielding, the bowling of Timmy and Trent the positive spirit and the calm approach of our batsmen under huge pressure. Woakes bowled extremely well for 3 overs but the player who saw him off in that spell knew how to destroy him at the end. And nice to 'father of Daryl Mitchell' watching proudly in the stands. Amazing displays by Conway and Neesham too. What a team!

gotta say, didn't expect to see this when i woke up. These boys never fail to surprise me
I'm a petty guy, but part of my enjoyment in this is social media. I fucking loooove watching the mental gymnastics Indian fans have to perform to argue they are still the best team in the world across all formats. And how we're plucky underdogs who keep getting lucky.
lol fuck off Ranjit, your team of mentally weak millionaires just suck a bit.
If Pakistan make the final, we're a chance. If Australia make the final we are fucked.
Kinda want Aus to make the final, and obviously us beat them.
That way we will have beaten India, England AND Australia. All the fucking selfish power broking arsewipes.
Would make it that much sweeter.
