Good result for Scotland

Mistake-strewn game with dreadful refereeing - par for the course for Poitre
Never forgiven him for his appalling refereeing in the Boks/AB game at Eden Park when he sent Bismark Du Plessis off twice.

Scots defence parts like the Red Sea. Aussie in.
Bill Mclaren used to refer to it as ‘the opposition finding more space than in the gobi desert’
I think he’d be pleased with three wins in a row vs Australia.

Poite was ok today with letting it flow but he did make a few mistakes, which pretty much so all went Scotland’s way.
> Really enjoyed it tho, Scotland backline is a joy to watch.
There’s a sentence I never thought I’d see written down in my lifetime

@tordah However those same highlights in YouTube show just how we are our own worst enemies at times. The paisami cleanout past the ball. JOC missing an easy penalty first up. Our scrum buckling when it looked pretty good all year.
Not sure how the first Scots try wasn't called obstruction though.

And it was a shit cleanout by Alaalatoa, too - zero effect. Get there and retain your balance, eyes up, to protect the ball.
Tough call only in that many refs have let this 'style' of play go for years. No attempt to be doing anything at the tackle except insert a body in there and go to ground. It's not a clear out. It's no different to tackling a player on the ground. You are actually only meant to bind onto a player on their feet anyway.
In my opinion it is a penalty anyway (should be at almost every ruck) but the arm to the head was just extra clumsiness.IMO the reason this is never ruled on is that WR want to encourage players to the tackle area to create space elsewhere but then want quick contests for the ball to keep play moving.

Anyway, fuck it. On to England - the expectations for the tour were a bit lower with Kerevi and Quade gone, but we're now firm underdogs at Twickers.
Oz are good enough to bounce back after yet another loss to their bogey team
Scots on the other hand will DEFINITELY drop one of the next two games, I’m picking against SA. No way can they beat two Southern hemisphere heavyweights in a row.
I’m picking a plucky loss there but victory over the brave blossoms or whatever the Japanese team are called…..

@crucial having not seen the game - was it a call from an AR or the TMO or something?
Because they weren't doing their fucking job on the Scots first try if they were watching that closely.
I only watched some highlights but in the non try it seemed to be a TMO callback for review. For the Scots first try it was reviewed from a number of angles and cleared. I couldn't see a problem. It was a canny move that shifted to point of the maul as the aussies formed it not after.
-
@derpus my issues with it on a couple of viewings:
- ball was transferred prior to maul forming
- pod moved forward prior to maul forming
- Watson was not bound to the ball carrier when he received the ball.
If he'd done a proper hit and rip it might be a little more foggy, but that is objectively illegal on any one of those issues.
Sometimes we forget "bound" means the shoulder, not the hand.
