So Midnight Oil are getting back together and touring. Happy days. I'll be playing 10..9..8.. any moment now.

I've seen them a few times, as a Sydneysider would, and my undying memory was being at The Metro back in '93 or '94 when they were doing an acoustic concert where as you entered you got to nominate a song (not that they played my suggestion). The crowd by then was very political following the albums Diesel and Dust and Blue Sky Mining. The support band was a trio of women called Tiddas. They took the stage and introduced themselves; 'we're Tiddas' to which a bloke more inebriated than everyone else put together yelled out 'show us ya tiddas' and he was escorted out as the crowd booed and jeered him. I recall feeling like I was the only person laughing.
-

I first saw them in Auckland. It was their Head Injuries tour so it must have been 1979, and Back on the Borderline and Cold Cold Change were highlights that I'd never heard before. They played the Gluepot and I went to all three concerts. Then Sweetwaters (10,9,8..), then Wembley Arena much later. Love the Oils. But yeah, they were the band of choice for many annoying worthies for a while there. There was a woman behind us somewhere at Wembley who spent a large part of the concert lecturing her friends about the depredations of mining companies in Australia. A time and a place lady, a time and a place.
-

what am i listening to at the moment? 80s and 90s thrash metal. Fuck yea.

Talking of Tangerine Dream, a while back I was going to nominate Risky Business as the 80s movie with the best soundtrack. THere was a great Prince track in it called DMSR (Dance, Music, Sex, Romance). And Rebecca De Mornay was in it. -

Just watched the first semi-final of Eurovision 2016.

Fuck, Cliff Curtis has some range

-
Yeah we've just been watching a bit of Eurovision too. It's comedy gold. Did you get the Scott Mills / Mel Giedroyc commentary Stockcar?

Not sure about the female (? - can't be too careful about gender assumptions nowadays. The one in the dress anyway) I see where you're going with Cliff Curtis. I was thinking Jennifer Aniston with roid rage and a bad shaving rash. -

No commentary for me, just watching the raw stream on Youtube. I'm hoping the final screened on TV has the British commentary though

Get the fuck outta here, you sick bastard.

Oh I loathe train, they are like a millennial version of Hootie and the blowfish or something. But he sounded a fair bit like Plant on what I heard on the radio which surprised me a bit.
-

Train are absolutely horrific. Another band of the same ilk as them and Hootie and the Blowfish are the Counting Crows, just god awful fucken music from people who found Rage, GnR, Faith no More, Chillis, Nirvana and Stone Temple Pilots a bit aggressive and "rock" like.....the 90s in particular was full of pussy music like that....other names to throw in are the Goo Goo dolls, Hoobastank and of course Nickelback......

This thread irks me, I love music probably more than sport to be honest but when people have lots of links on these threads it takes ages to load so hence I don't usually bother. Also people put things up that may or may not be good but there's such a huge chance they get ignored because of said issues.

Does it need to be separated into genres or is that in the too hard basket ?
-

Oh christ I've awakened the Kraken again. Not that I disagree about Counting crows and Hootie but I've always thought the Chillis and Rage were rubbish, I listened to Gnrs first two albums a couple of weeks ago and there a lot of filler on there . Hoobastank and Nickleback would 00s wouldn't they?

You strike me as a Puddle of Mudd fan , am I right?
