@act-crusader as I was living in Holland and hitching round Europe I saw no rugby that year at all - I have seen Gary Knoght get flour bombed on TV several times since but that's it.
Was 1981 Nicky Allens brief time in AB's?
His name popped in my head but I think he only played Aus (3rd test) and Wales in 1980.
Could be wrong.
Most of the names above came from memories of the Bok tour, which was kind of a big deal ...
We toured France EOYT in 81 didn't we? Don't really remember it.
Wondering if Dunn or Wayne Smith made an appearance at 10 that year?
10
Wayne Smith wasn’t selected in 81, but played in 1980 and 82.

France and Romania. That was the tour that John Boe and Brian Morrissey went on. Koteka was another Waikato player in that squad. Jock Ross was also on that tour.

Quiz Time
For @booboo @dogmeat and the other senior citizens 😁
Name the All Blacks that played in 1981?
I dunno, Sam whitelock seems like he's been around for a while.
Sid Going?
Colin Meads?
George Nepia?
Don Clarke?Maybe I'm not old enough for this game.
All good mate!
Sid was done by 81 (finished up in 77). Meads even earlier - both would make a 1971 list…
Nepia was 1920s/30s and Sir Don was 50/60s

@booboo I had a wall poster for that tour which had photos of all of the players and the itinerary. I remember there was a Woodman too.

Booboo got all the easy ones! I can remember easily Naas Botha, Danie Gerber and Ray Mordt among the Bok backs.
There must have been another fullback other than Hewie - Richard and Bevan Wilson and Clive Currie would all be options - but, all might have been done by then.
Murray and Mark Taylor both around that era.

@chris-b McKechnie is listed above, although I don't think anyone picked him.
I think Andrew Donald might have also been on that EOYT.
McKechnie was a freebie given my old man rated him highly 😉

Clue for #24 - more notable in previous years, only played in one match in 1981, did captain the ABs

I'm thinking it's several years too late for Gary Seear. Dunno if he was captain but he did kick goals!
